Forums - Sony Discussion - Why the PS3 still hasn't been hacked.

What. Lol there's heaps of hackers on warhawk...

By the way, people have done PS3 hacks:

Someone also has turned a PS3 into a George Forman Grill.. YES!

:\ i hope nobody breaks the ps3 code. I don't want the ps3 to turn into the chick at the bar who seemed impossible to get until everyone found out she had a weakness for vodka and now everyone can get a ride. Keep the morals of the ps3 secureeee! :d

I hope they never hack the PS3.

But about X360 hacking, does it still need a mod chip combined with many hours to reset?

AFAIK they are flashing something into DVD drive firmware and it's even easier than PS2 era - at least comparing online prices for both hacks :)

IMHO the reason why PS3 is still seeing tons of 3rd party support despite smaller sales is lack of piracy on the system.

to me i think it is much simpler.

Blu Ray blank discs are still pricy and so are the burners. Even if it was hacked you would need to run it of the internal hdd which means you could only have one game at a time.

Isn't the BR today at price levels of DVD in the days when PS2 was hacked ? I'd rather look into higher than average console age of ps3 owners which means they have cash to spend.

Main reason the PS3 hasn't been hacked is that Sony was smart and let people install and run Linux on it.
So the people that usually hack consoles to run their own code on it don't need to hack the PS3 OS because Sony gave them something to play with...

So basically for once only the pirates are trying to crack the machine because most of the homebrew folks don't need to.
And usually the homebrew folks are a lot smarter and better at it than the pirates....

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

gahh, i'll tell you why the PS3 isn't hacked.

Because the PS3 is providing homebrew access with a sandbox environment. Because the environment is open to the homebrew scene their is no serious efforts by the homebrew scene to find exploits. There maybe a few people here and their, but overall custom code runs on the PS3 and that's the first and primary element homebrewers want and need.

The Wii and 360 however as usual try too block EVERYTHING. The harder you hold the more will slip through your hands.

And to add a correction the Wii exploit that started homebrew wasn't in the drive. It was in strcmp() that was executed from a TP savegame when playing TP.

C?!.

thats lame, but also the seven SPU it's uses for OS and checks everything that othe spu do.

That's exactly what I was trying to say in my last post except much better said...

Most of the hacks pirates use have usually been found by the homebrew folks, and for once the pirates actually have to do their homework and looks to me like they suck at it....

no.  BluRay recorders are about $500AU ($350US), and $50AU ($35US) for 50gb SONY disc.

Well at least where I am. When PS2 was hacked DVD-rs where $2AU each here.
