Forums - Sony Discussion - Preview: LittleBigPlanet

I love the look of the game and it'll be interesting to see how it all comes together. Hopefully it doesn't suffer the same problem that Viva Pinata did, a great game that didn't get the sales it deserved because there wasn't a big enough audience for that kind of game on the console yet.

Casual is not bad.

Easy ass gameplay is casual, and that not LBP. Or do looks make a game casual these days ?

LOL, have you even played Wii sports?  Try getting gold medals in all of the training games and come and tell me the game the game is easy.  Then we will try for the really hard medals.

Casual has nothing to do with how easy it is, the only "difficulty" related requirement for a casual game is that it can't be insanely difficult.  And sorry but you aren't going to convince me that LBP is tough to play, it looks to me like they made everything stupid easy to do and the only thing standing between a casual gamer and some awesome levels is going to be their imaginiations.

The big differences between casual and hardcore are the amount of violence and how easy the game is to pick up and play and put down whenever/wherever you want.  LBP is not violent and you can save and stop playing at any time.

To Each Man, Responsibility

I'm just glad nobody yet claimed that LBP is a kiddie game...
I'm really looking forward to playing this one. I just love innovative game concepts.

@Sqrl: I share your opinion about casual games. Just not the part about violence. Casual games can be very violent. (e.g. Worms). Although the violence is abstracted, it's still there.

isn't it obvious? PS3 can't have kiddie games. Since it's on PS3, it's not kiddie.

(hmm, it seems my posts in this thread are all sarcastic, lol)

Hus is right.

This game is hardcore.

Look at these creepy bastids, for christ's sake.

Kratos and Marcus Fenix wouldn't last two seconds with these characters. Now THAT'S hardcore, baby.

OT: If the rumors about a $399 PS3 are true, and it comes before LittleBigPlanet hits, I see this title doing very well. Awesome concept, I hope it does well.

Ohh noes.

Iam sure casuals will know how to build stuff, Singstar or buzz is casual.

other then the looks, nothing about LBP is casual.

Stuff like wii sports is casual where they do everything for you, LBPs gameplay is not for soccer moms.

Preach it Brother!!!  LBP may look casual, but the hardcore players will eat it up :D  Making your own level and publishing it online to compete... is not hardcore?  We are going to see alot of amazing levels that people will come up with. LBP will be phenomenal, and OK for the Hardcore :D

Not only Sims, but SimCity... that was pretty casual, and you built cities.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Well I'm just saying, Hus seems to think we're bashing LBP by calling it a casual game.

I think he's got some twisted idea that a casual game has to be the easiest game ever, aka Wii Sports. He doesn't seem to grasp the concept that games like Guitar Hero, Sims, whatever, are also considered casual games. They're games you can spend a lot of time customizing, play however you want, do what you want, etc. LBP is customization to the max...I don't understand why he thinks it's a bad thing to be considered a "casual game."

And now that he has nothing to say, he'll stop posting here. Maybe one more about being fanboys, something that has no relation with the topic etc etc.

Yeah, I finally have a sig.

Anything a Sony Fan says is considered a troll. Lay off Hus... It's like 20 vs 1.

If it were just Hus making a rational argument then I would completely agree with you, but since I've never seen Hus rational, all I have to say is that he's asking for it.

I know you like to think LBP planet is some epic hardcore masterpiece but it is as casual as games come.

  1. It appeals to younger crowds and is even family friendly in appearance
  2. It's easy to get into (even the developers said you learn how to build without realizing it)
  3. The gameplay is beyond simple

I don't know what you think a casual game is, but that's it right there.

Also, I've never said a casual game is a bad thing or LBP is a bad game (just not one I'm interested in).  All I've said is that the game isn't going to do great on the PS3.  It's going to be fun for about 15 minutes to most PS3 owners and they'll never look at it again after they make a few levels and nobody bothers with them.  As for the typical casual player, the PS3 has about 5 of those and good luck to them for even hearing about this game.

Why do so many PS3 fans assume that since a game is "casual", it lacks depth?

The level creation tools and other options don't stop LBP from being a casual title, it just means that it's not a shitty casual title. There are loads of great casual games over the years that offered extremely difficult gameplay for those who were interested in mastering the game.
