Oh my god... awesome. Maybe beeing a fanboy is worse than I ever expected... that´s not a joke now - I´m really scared... will he do some naughty things if we don´t consider the PS3 a goddess?

washimul repsonded with: Nonsense, nonsense, nonsense, you didn't read my links (despite quoting directly from your links in my post), the ps3 will roxor everything, nonsense, oneElevenOneOneEleven.
Sigh, well washimul it's good to see you at least rose to the level of my expectations.

Washimul we have tried to be patient, but you are coming dangerously close to earning yourself a one-week vacation. Telling users who disagree with you shut up repeatedly is not how you argue a point, and only serves to degrade the level of discussion.

U have been watching 2 much DragonballZ dude....but ey......your seriously ........... funny.....Can't w8 to tell the world about your Newfound believe with a god named "CELL" ? :) I agree with u CELL is powerfull

31 million PS3's by end of this year

Come on!! Just one-week vacation? He should go at least for the rest of his life... this dude (or kid) should chill out a bit...

Quake 3 with raytracing, playable on just about any modern PC with good framerates OMFG P4 IS TEH HAXOR PROCESSOR CELL IS NOTING!!!eleven!!!!

CELL outguns just about anything in heavy computational taks including FFT, TRE, CYPTOGRAPHY, STENCIL and LINEAR MATRIX MULTIPLICATION etc.
But it fails in many other areas, like branch prediciton. And too bad it's an in order processor but I guess out of order is too advanced and complex for CELL BM(tm), I'll stick to my pentium pro with "backwards" out of order execution.
so just wait for some time.............and witness the CELL power!!!! BY june we would have a debate over this.
Yes, because K8L will be out then and demolish Cell in almost every way imaginable except meaningless specs. BTW, Crysis looks better than any PS3 game or the Cell raytracing demo you linked to. EDIT: I had no idea pages now scale to posted pics. I thought it would just clip off the edges of the images like before, so sorry if this now wider web page causes problems.

We'll go with one more post. If it's filled with links spamming us about the power of teh CELL, and not an apology for bashing our users, he's out.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Actually there was a tech demo for Heavenly Sword that was no camera but people were allowed to go to. Word is its getting to be ridiculous on the graphics front. Also Lair has improved a lot if you look at recent screenshots as compared to a few months ago, they have really been smoothing it out. Lair is not delayed for bugs, haven't you ever seen an interview with Factor 5 on the subject? That game is 90% done and they are only working on polishing features and graphics.

That looks terrible for quake 3, both GoW and Resistance look way better than that. All systems are inefficient in branch prediction, Sony developers "claim" the PS3 is actually more efficient in their experience in working with other processors. "In order" PS3 uses parallel structures for branching, aren't most (ALL) current PCs using series (In order) structures. Anyway, regardless, IBM wouldn't be entering the processor market if they didn't know what they were doing and had a plan to compete with Intel. They believe in the cell structure enough to throw their weight behind it. Crysis looks better than any game ever made for any console. But it's not going to be looking like that on your system since they are utilizing directx10 (which most people don't have) and as with a lot of PC games they are running it on a card that isn't even available on the market and computers that most people can't afford. I think this is why for most games I prefer consoles, because I know at least they are running it on the console hardware, and while they might brush the images up, it's going to be close to what is finally advertised around launch.

Just an interesting site: http://graphics.cs.uni-sb.de/~woop/rpu/rpu.html

The RPU is a fully programmable ray tracing hardware architecture, with support for programmable material, geometry and lighting. The RPU combines the efficiency of GPUs with the advantages of ray tracing. The instruction set of the RPU is GPU like, which is optimal for shading purposes. In addition the RPU supports fast ray traversal through an k-D tree using a dedicated hardware unit and recursive function calls, usefull for recursive ray tracing. To increase efficiency always 4 rays are handled in a packet and multi-threading allows for high utilization of the hardware units. A working prototype of this hardware architecture has been developed based on FPGA technology. The ray tracing performance of the FPGA prototype running at 66 MHz is comparable to the OpenRT ray tracing performance of a Pentium 4 clocked at 2.6 GHz, despite the available memory bandwith to our RPU prototype is only about 350 MB/s. These numbers show the efficiency of the design, and one might estimate the performance degrees reachable with todays high end ASIC technology. High end graphics cards from NVIDIA provide 23 times more programmable floating point performance and 100 times more memory bandwidth as our prototype. The prototype can be parallelized to several FPGAs, each holding a copy of the scene. A setup with two FPGAs delivering twice the performance of a single FPGA is running in our lab. Scalability to up to 4 FPGA has been tested.
This was written in June of 2005 so (hypothetically speaking) you should be able to get at least 50 times the floating point performance and 200 times the memory bandwith ... If you look at the video they're showing and imagine what 50 to 100 times as much power would do (assuming they used multiple RPUs) it becomes clear that Quake 3 is the tip of the iceburg of what could be done with dedicated hardware ...
