Forums - Sony Discussion - I just bought a PSP! Need advice...

Hey, I am usually a rather large and in charge MS fanboy but like others I own a PS2 and PS1. Well I decided to take the plunge and buy a PSP at $120 at my local Radioshack for a new PSP-2000 series. I figured even with the announcement of a PSP 2 and the rumors they would take away the UMD drive, plus the discounted price I didn't have much to lose, right? Not to mention every PSP game I want is $25 or less new with the exception of two.

Well anyways I picked up the following real cheap

FF7: Crisis Core $20

God of War $20

Castlevania $10

Final Fantasy 1 $10

I have the following on my wishlist: Shin Megami Tensei Persona 1 (Hoping for US release), Brave Stories, Burnout Legends, Crush, Disgaea 1, Final Fantasy Dissidia, Jeanne D'Arc, Megaman Powered Up, Phantasy Star Portable, Prinny.

Also wondering if theres any must have accessories since the core pack is pretty bare bones. Since I don't plan on modding my PSP atm my friend is going to give me a 1 gig pro duo free of charge.

So now all someone needs to do is give me a free PS3 so I can own every system ;)

i was gonna say God of war, but i realize u r smart and already got it. Enjoy the best game for the psp ;)

*Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is cool

So what advice do you need? Game suggestions?

Also accessories recommended are at least a 1GB Memory Stick, a headset if you want to game online and the TV output adapter in case you want to play PSP games or UMD movies on a TV.

I wouldn't think there are any "must have accessories". The games are enough.

Brave Story was a lot of fun by the way.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Shin Megami Tensei Persona 1 (Hoping for US release)

Persona PSP remake coming to the US this fall

What, you want more PSP news? Very well, how about the announcement that Atlus will be bringing the Persona PSP remake over to the US this fall. After the success of Persona 3 and 4, it was a no-brainer that Atlus would decide to bring the game over to an RPG-hungry western audience. The remake includes "a completely redone localization and content never before seen in North America," along with "gameplay enhancements and additions new to the remake."

Whether or not the title will head to Europe is slightly more nebulous, as Atlus doesn't have a publishing arm in the region. Hopefully sales of Persona 4 will be high enough to encourage Square Enix to go ahead and publish the PSP remake of the original, too.

Yeah I could use a sturdy case/protector for on the go. I don't plan on playing on games online except maybe Resistance Retribution down the road and Phantasy Star *maybe* down the road.

Out of curiosity how does GTA Vice City or Liberty City Stories compare to DS Chinatown Wars when it comes to fun factor?

Well any odd game suggestions. I would rule out most RPGs unless they are really, really, really worth my time because my backlog is still big and those that I listed will probably keep me busy for awhile.

Awesome news on Persona. I actually sold my US PS1 version for over $92 on eBay, and that was about 25% of the reason why I got a PSP as well.

I agree, I haven't necessarily taken advantage of the PSP online structure. So I guess that feature is a no no for you probably. GTA: Vice City and Liberty City Stories are just like the PS2 counterparts. When I say just like, I mean just like. It is like a miniature version of the PS2 versions. But they certainly are worth playing at least. And RPG wise, like you suggested just play those you listed on your wish list. Also it looks like Persona 1 is coming to the PSP by the link Star Scream posted above!

I own two of these and they are by far my favorite PSP casing.

I had FFTactics on my list and was tempting by the $10 tag, but I beat the game over five times on the PS1. I'm not sure if I could go through it again. Of course I also beat FF1 several times and own it on the NES, PS1 and I think the GBA somewhere but for some reason I never get tired of FF1 and bought it out of pure love for the game. I'm not a huge GTA fan but mayhem on the go sounds fun. So I'm just unsure if I should get Vice City Stories or Liberty City right now. lol.

Excellent advise on the casing! I will keep that in mind.
