The resident mole at Arstechnica's Oposable Thumbs blog, who by the way has a pretty good track record, is pointing to this as the lineup for Sony's american holiday season:


 - Playstation 3 80GB for $499;
 - Playstation 3 40GB for $399;
 - Spiderman 3 as a packin for either one, or both;
 - Playstation 2 for $99.

I would buy one if it goes that low O.O

After charging $599 for a PS3 80Gig (+ game), they would have some serious BALLS to charge $399 for the same thing... with a slightly smaller hard disk.

I can't see it happening, and it would make a massive dent in their pockets if it was true.

Then again this is Sony - they aren't exactly the most rational company around.

I'm not seeing that happening this year.

BTW, hard drives are rarely measured in GiB.  A GiB is 2^30 bytes, a GB is 10^9 bytes.  HD manufacturers always quote GB because the number is larger.

The PS3 really needs a price point like that - but will it happen anytime soon? I don't know....

I think price is one of the biggest obstacles the console faces right now.
