Forums - Gaming Discussion - Brawl vs. Halo 3, Predictions

I think it will be very close between Brawl and Halo 3.

Looking at the charts, it seems that the Halo series is a tad more popular in Europe, way more popular in America, and obviously doesn't hold a candle in Japan. I think that Japan will be huge. In America and Europe, I see the long term sales giving an edge to Halo 3, but Japan will put them on equal footing.

It's hard to say, because both Melee and Halo 1 & 2 had incredible legs. Keep in mind that the month the Xbox launched in America, Halo sold something like 300,000 copies and was outsold by Luigi's Mansion, so there is absolutely no denying that the Halo series has incredibly strong legs. The things is, if Halo 3 can replicate the kind of front loaded sales that Halo 2 had, and maintain legs that are closer to Halo (as in, a must buy for most who get a Xbox 360 from when it launches), it will outsell Brawl and maybe Galaxy. Either way, we're talking about mega-franchises that could all sell past 10 million at the end of this gen, so it should be interesting.

And regarding a comment about how everybody who wants Halo 3 already has a 360, I never understood that argument. If that is true, it would invalidate any argument about the PS3 catching up due to the release to the release of FFXIII and MGS4. Compelling software sells systems, and Halo 3 is pretty damn compelling, so it will sell systems. 8 million ppl didn't pre-buy the 360 at a higher price so they can wait for 2 years.

It matters on how many wiis are sold, if they were equal id say halo is gonna win, but if wii has a huge advantage, then brawl in time

But in terms of attachment rates, halo 3 will hold the trophey

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

i will be buying both. BUT halo three is a much better game and value. i will play halo 3 online a multitude of hours (ala rainbow 6) i will play brawl a couple of times with my kids. I think eventually games will come with more variety of price points. I think halo 3 would sell at 80 dollars where brawl would sell best at 30-40 dollars.

and you obviously know nothing at all about Brawl or it's features. Oh well, ignorance is bliss.

It sure is, like ignoring the fact that the Wii's installed base is much more diverse than the Gamecube's or even including Super Smash Bros in your original chart to show that Halo 1 > SSB and Halo 2 > SSBM...

That's a horrible comparison to make, are you really gonna compare Halo 1 on the Xbox to a N64 game?!?!  Its a completely different generation.  You might as well compare Halo 1 and Halo 2 to Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine then.  The fact that you are essentially completely ignoring Naz's long post indicates you know your argument can't stand vs actual numbers posted.

As many already said...

initially - Halo3
long run - SSBB

I think they are both going to sell great in Others and America, but since halo isn't popular in Japan, I think Brawl should come out on top.

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Predictions:

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!

Since it was comparing sales and making predictions across different consoles what difference does it make what console the first SSB game came out on?  I notice when people talk about Final Fantasy game sales for example they include the PS1 sales as well as the PS2, so why is it a big deal in this case?

Because Halo 1 is a direct comparison to Super Smash Bros Melee, because they both were launch titles for their respective consoles.

I'm comparing between like titles in the same generation to show future performance in the next generation Legend. You are trying to compare the sales of two titles across a generation as signs of the sales for ANOTHER generation above that. That's a pretty large stretch of logic. That's like me saying FFVII sold 9.72 million so FFXIII will sell that much... even though that would be completely ignoring the much more recent and relevant data one generation in between. You are going back too far to be statistically accurate in a direct software comparison is my point.

Brawl wont get too close to halo 3's lifetime sales that I garuntee.

Both HALO and SSBM sold about the same for the GCN and XBox, were released around the same time (within a month I believe) and both consoles sold roughly the same world wide.

This gen, it seems very likely that the Wii will improve its sales totals substantially, and end up far ahead of the 360 in most and possibly all markets. If Nintendo actually delivers SSBB with decent play and online play, I see no reason why SSBB couldn't outsell HALO3 long term, simply for the larger user base.

Short term, though, I would guess HALO 3 as that is THE marquee title for the360, whereSSBB has to compete with Metroid and Galaxy.

No offense, but the whole, "Brawl will sell more in the long term" is a bunch of crap. No matter how well the Wii sells, Brawl can't even begin to touch Halo's strength.

Halo sells somewhat well in Japan, and Smash Bros has never been amazingly strong in Japan, although it does sell quite well, and manages to have long legs.

Super Mario Galaxy, maybe. Brawl? No chance.

Just because the 5 people in Japan who own a MS console also bought Halo, it doesn't mean Halo sells well there.

Please compare:

Again Leo-j, what is the rationale for your answer.

What's the rationale for anyone's answer?  You do know we're all guessing here right?  We all can come up with the same numbers saying different things all day but in the end it's all guess work.  Let him have his funny little fantasy.

Please tell me you are not that ill informed.

Those paragraphs of people EXPLAINING why one will outsell the other? Those are their rationales. Sure not everyone is offering their rationales, but Leo-J, who has earned his stripes as a fanboy, is the only one offering a guarantee (or you money back?). If one is just guessing with no supporting logic, its no better than predicting a coin flip, and Leo-J would have to be a gigantic fool to guarantee anything in that case.
