Forums - Gaming Discussion - Brawl vs. Halo 3, Predictions

If you are a subscriber to the ign podcast, you probably heard about the factor 5 petition thing and the halo3 vs. brawl discussion. Its pretty interesting to see how this is going to turn out.

Both games push console sales. Its known for a fact that people on the fence, waiting to buy a Wii or a 360 are also waiting for Brawl and Halo 3. The moment either comes out, regardless if which fanboy you are, the chances are that your gonna get a 360 when Halo 3 comes out, or your gonna get a Wii i when Brawl hits the shelves. (makes no difference which consoles you currently own.)

The games are just that good. They tap into the hardcore of each platform to the point that it draws in everyone in the vincinity. Core and Casual gamers alike. (more so for brawl than Halo)

THE QUESTION IS: Which will sell more initially and in the long run?

Both consoles are selling roughly the same amount, the lead the Wii has on the 360 isn't sufficient enough to make that much of a difference right now. Who knows how much the lead Wii has on the xbox360 will matter later this year?

FACT: Smash Bros Meelee sold almost as much as Halo

PREDICTIONS:

IN AMERICA

Halo 3 will greatly outsell Brawl on day one and the weeks to come. Low chance Brawl could ever catch up.

IN JAPAN

Brawl takes the cake for itself. Halo 3 has no chance in Japan. Not while that adorable little bastard pikachu is still playable in Brawl.

OVERALL

Brawl falls behind just barely. By May of next year, Brawl will catch up because the amount of Wii's sold will be significant enough to make a impact. But who knows for sure? Halo 3 is being marketed like a $HIT load, while Brawl is only being marketed towards its already established fan base (via the smash bros dojo that most casual gamers dont even know about). Then again, there are alot of good games coming out for the xbox360 around the same this year, (Call of Duty 4, Assassin's Creed etc.) and it could cause competition for Halo 3. This prediction will only hold true if Nintendo bucks up and starts pouring money into getting the word out on Brawl, as MS did with Halo 3, which i doubt they'll do. More likely, there will release a few "Wii would like to play" commercials or reveal something amazing that jump starts the Brawl hype right before launch. But thats just wishful thinking I suppose.

QUESTION: What are your predictions, and who will sell more? America? Japan? Worldwide?

EDIT:

I've added a chart for the sales of both games. All credit for this chart goes to naznatips, I did not get this myself.

MP3 will get closer to Halo 3. But personally Halo is the biggest selling game franchise nowadays. There is so much hype and prorders for Halo3 that I will be shocked if any game ever surpasses it for sales in the forseeable future.

Brawl wont get too close to halo 3's lifetime sales that I garuntee.

You garuntee? Well we'll hold you to your word then.

SSBM sold quite a bit..close to Halo numbers, on the GC. SSBB is on a much more popular console now, and if the Wii sells considerably more than the 360, which it's ontrack for, it could outsell Halo 3.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Halo 3 will hammer all games this fall on day 1 sales. I think that both Brawl and Galaxy will outsell Halo 3 in the test of time though.

I also don't expect Halo 3 to have the big impact on hardware sales that everyone expects. Those that want the game already own the console for the most part. But we will see.

For the first year Halo will decimate Brawl. But in 6 years? Super Smash games have incredibly long legs, longer than any other game I can think of.

You didn't mention a specific region so I assume you are talking about worldwide sales.

Halo 3 will sell more units than Brawl in its opening week in the USA. Brawl will win Japan. Halo 3 will sell a little more than Brawl in europe first week.

However in the long run, Brawl should easily win over Halo 3 worldwide due to the userbase advantage of the Wii.

I predict that:

Halo 3 won't sell more than 10m units in the long run
Brawl will sell at least 10m units in the long run

thanks, i just realized that when I went over the post for spelling.

Halo 3 is going to sell way more initially, but on the other hand the Wii as a console is probably going to sell many times more than the Xbox 360 in the long run. I believe Brawl has a good chance of going past later in its life if Wii sales truly go insane, but stuff like that doesn't happen too often.

I'm with the majority here, Halo 3 initially, Brawl in the long run. I'd even go so far as to say in lifetime sales all of these Wii games will outsell Halo 3:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Super Mario Galaxy
Mario Kart Wii

Brawl is going to be HUGE And its coming during the holidays... First week vs First week, would be close. (in America) if it does come out in europe this year brawl will have a huge first week too. I dont really know the date of Halo3 in europe... But in america August is not so hot (Halo is... but the date will help brawl past it).

Obviously by the time brawl hits, Halo will have sold a lot (3 months headstart) and it will take some time to Brawl to catch on, but my prediction is 2008 holidays.
