only 1 mistake,
it started off @ 600

5. Not really, 3rd party support seems to have greatly improved. Nearly all well selling 3rd party games which were released for the 360 ended up on the PS3 as well. Many companies which in the past only produced PC games have now moved onto supporting the PS3.

Only Microsoft published 3rd party titles weren't ported (for example porting Mass Effect would make sense, as it uses cross platform middleware). And Valve's zombie game, but Valve is run by a pigheaded ex-Microsoft employee.

4. Many people, me included. Appreciate the wealth of added features, PSN being more powerful for developers and free to consumers, IMO the PS3 is already well ahead of XBox Live. Microsoft is doing nothing similar to what Sony is doing with regard to Playstation Home.

PS3 exclusives usually support more online features (like user created content in LittleBigPlanet), more online players (like in Killzone 2 or Motorstorm: Pacific Rift) and show less lag issues.

3. Maybe you have a point. At least you can play all your PS1 games on the PS3 already. I guess more and more PS1 classics will be available for download in due time. (Maybe they are selling better in other regions)

2. I don't agree, the cost reduction is well appreciated as demonstrated by the very significant sales increase when entry pricing dropped to 400 dollars/euro one and a half years ago. IMO they should furher cost reduce the PS3 by going slimline, bringing back PS2 compatibility is a thing to implement for the future.

Selling PS3s with PS2 chips now, adds costs now and would render these chips largely useless when software emulation is implemented.

IMO at this point entry pricing is more important than PS2 backwards compatibility.

1. I prefer to have a PS3 instead of a PS2.5, sure relatively high entry pricing has affected sales. But the PS3 is still extremely cheap considering system specifications. Blu-Ray and Cell related technology costed a lot of R&D, but I think in the end most PS3 owners will be thankful.

PS3 vs 360 sales

no.5- not quite...ps3 is has a strong 3rd party support and some 3rd party exclusive (e.g ff13vs, mgs4, quantum theory etc)

no.4- not sure about this one...

no.3- hmmm....maybe

no.2- I agree since some ppl might want to play some of their favourite ps2 games again like me(lucky i got the 60gb B/c).

no.1- yep I agree it is expensive for a console especially in our economy right now.

Yes it's very important to some, however like you the most hardcore Playstation gamers got a 60GB PS3 with the PS2 chips included already. What seems to be a wrong though, is that Sony doesn't seem to have enough older models left reserved as replacements if a broken unit would be considered unrepairable (I don't know for sure though).

Also the PS2 itself is still available worldwide, IMO they need software emulation implemented before the PS2 stops to be on the market for some regions (I think the PS2 will remain on the market for a long time to come for developing countries).

Actually it started off at 500 dollars. But most people preferred to pay extra for higher specs.

Loss of GTA 4, FF XIII, And Resident Evil 5 exclusivity. Those 3 games were huge deal breakers for millions and millions of people.
2. Blue ray was a mistake. Not necessary for games as innovation is not limited by space. It also hiked the price up
3.no mascot. A mascot helps give identity. Sports teams have it, companies have it, disney has micky, mgm has the lion, warner bros has bugs bunny. Playstation has an automobile from GT.
4.has the oldest userbase by far according to neilson. PS3 is made up of mostly 25-32 year old male adults. Xbox 360 has the very lucrative 11-18 and nintendo has everything else.
5. Lack of killer games. MGs4 is best selling exclusive to date has not even broken 4 million even though it was heavily bundled. Where's the Wii fit or Halo 3 of the PS3? Uncharted? Lol

Do journalists really have nothing better to do than write this horseshite?

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Those developers were and have always been multi-platform developers. Grand Theft Auto started out as an Amiga game and got released on the PC first.

Square started out on the NES, the reason why the Nintendo 64 wasn't supported was due to its lack of storage.

Resident Evil 4 was actually a timed GameCube exclusive.

Blue ray was a mistake. Not necessary for games as innovation is not limited by space.

IMO the inclusion of Blu-Ray is a must. The PS3 is a high definition console, giving consumers a reason to use their HDTVs for high definition content. High quality audio and graphics take up a lot of space and for the long run DVD is far too limited. Blu-Ray movie compatibility is a nice bonus to many.

In addition, the use of Blu-Ray instead of DVD also has the benefits of a far less noisy drive. For example the PS3 Blu-Ray drive is faster on average than how fast a dual layer DVD can be read by the 360, but it achieves this with far fewer disc rotations due to a much higher data density on disc. Also Blu-Ray discs are scratch resistant.

3.no mascot. A mascot helps give identity. Sports teams have it, companies have it, disney has micky, mgm has the lion, warner bros has bugs bunny. Playstation has an automobile from GT.

I don't know if this would really be beneficial. Having LittleBigPlanet as a mascot may attract some people, but may push away others. Similar with regard to Killzone, but probably the other way around.

Mario seems to attract mostly kids for Nintendo. Halo mainly seems to attract teens for Microsoft. The PS1 and PS2 did well without a mascotte, the general reputation of the console and Sony seems to have been far more powerful.

has the oldest userbase by far according to neilson. PS3 is made up of mostly 25-32 year old male adults. Xbox 360 has the very lucrative 11-18 and nintendo has everything else.

I am actually happy about this. IMO too many youngsters online (especially with mics) can degrade the overall experience.

The PS3 is a high spec console not targeted at kids, it's targeted at adult males with families. The PS2 has turned more into a cheap kids targeted console, a future PS3 slimline model will probably attract more youngsters.

5. Lack of killer games. MGs4 is best selling exclusive to date has not even broken 4 million even though it was heavily bundled. Where's the Wii fit or Halo 3 of the PS3? Uncharted? Lol

Metal Gear Solid 4 is undertracked here at VGChartz. (I haven't bought it myself though)

There are lots of killer games out for the PS3, IMO more so than for any other plaftorm. Marketing could improve though.

PS3 vs 360 sales

@ mike. Imagine how many systems the PS3 would have sold if GTA4, and Resident Evil 5 if they were ttimed exclusives for Sony. Resident Evel sold 2 million in 2 days and GTA4 sold 7 million in a week. Those games were thought of as "sony games" because of several timed exclusives Sony had in the past. Metal Gear was nothhing compared to them
2. The best selling game thiss generation is Wii fit and Cod 4. No Sony game even comes close to those numbers. Blue ray makes people like you happy, but it doesn't help in sales at all.
3. A mascot is usually easily idenfied by millions and million and millions of people.Everyone knows Mario, even non gamers around the world. How many people outside of hard core Sony fans know who Nathan Drake or Sack boy is? Also,, LBP was sold to millions of 25 year old adult males, not kids like Sony. Unlless kids start loving it, its a worthless IP.
4.You may like the fact that the users are the oldest, but its gonna be the 12-15 year olds of today standing in line for midnight launches for the WII 2 AND xbox 720. If Sony doesn't attract a new generation of gamers, they will fade away. SONY IS MOSTLY SELLING TO pS1 fans from the 90's.
5. Even if MGs4 is undertracked. It wasn't a huge system seller and that was the biggest exclusive Sony had and probably will be the biggest ever.

There's only 2 mistakes Sony did with the PS3 and it started with the expensive price, but its slowly getting cheaper. And the removal of BWC. Costumers prefer to have more features on then to have it taken away.

There's nothing wrong with their firmwares, its mainly just bonus features so cant complain for more free stuff. And they didn't lose any third party games, just lost exclusive to them.
