Forums - Gaming Discussion - Square Enix boss instructs Sony marketing department

Although SE is kinda harsh these days with Sony, they seem to support them the most; what do you think?

It sounds like they want Sony to market the system so that there will be a larger user base.  A larger user base which will be mostly comprised of gamers.  They are releasing big budget titles for the system after all.

SE has a lot of money invested in projects on the various Playstation platforms. This is why they're supporting them the most, and why Sony's PR blunders are making them worried.

It will be extremely interesting to see where the next big Final Fantasies go after the current ones are finished.

But saying those thing makes people worry, thus endagering their games, no?

I dunno. My guess is that they're taking the slight risk of publicly criticizing Sony in order to scare them into shaping up.

Anyone else got a grand theory on life, universe, everything, and SE criticizing Sony?

Basically their situation is that it can't get any worse. So it doesn't matter what they say, when, from their point of view, things can only get better. Besides, this got SE and PS3 to media again. Propably their goal is to make Sony worry and start marketing more aggressively.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Maybe bad publicity is better than no publicity at all :/

Sony has been taking criticism from third party developers for quite some time. Those developers are rightly concerned with the way things are going. So they are sharing those concerns in public. Will it hurt sales probably not especially if it gets Sony to change coarse, and that new coarse sells more machines. Only the most observant will be taking note of what is said such as on these forums. The general market will be quite oblivious.

I am sometimes surprised by how people react to these statements. For over six months we have heard blurbs like this from other developers in Japan. Why should they not share their concerns. The performance of this console has a direct impact on their bottom line. Many on these forums say the same thing that the marketing has been quite poor. Thats just a real obvious problem is there a reason to ignore it.

If S-E wants to take this path then they are more than welcome to. Why they feel the FF brand has to be held synonymous with that of the Sony brand is somewhat of a mystery but if they're so intent on using 1080dpi to supplement the utter lack of creativity or innovation in their most recent instalments then I'll be more than pleased to see them ride the sinking PS3 ship down the path of mediocrity and hopefully learn a lesson along the way.

I know these words will strike a nerve with many but I am sick and tired of seeing S-E ruin the FF main series with their abhorent lack of vision, policy of special editions never released in the U.S., remakes galore and need for copious amounts of supplementary spin-off games while Sony meanwhile still tries to sell us a $500-$600 dead mackeral. If this is fate and two birds must be killed with one stone then so be it, I won't shed a tear.

Square was never known for their good decisions, in fact it was the lack of good decisions that left them virtually bankrupt and forced them to merge (essentially bought out) by Enix. Even then there is no mistaking the awkward downhill trend they've taken in game and marketing practices ever since the horror that was the Spirits Within before hand. If they're not busy making copy and paste main series games that do little more than rehash FFX then they're busy hocking remake after remake after remake or raping the beloved FF7 franchise all the while never giving the fans what they really want, a remake or port. They've even gone so far as to make critical elements of the FF7 story exclusive to the impractical Cell-phone format essentially dooming any fan or completist capable of shame.

The Crystal Chronicles games hold some promise but the original is nothing to instill much confidence in a market hungry for a fresh start. And while their handheld spin-offs and remakes seem to remain fairly fresh they still carry with them the odious funk of the home consoles' sins.

If Square really loves Sony so much then they can have them, I'm sure Sony will reciprocate the love with a session of rough unprotected anal sex and black eye or cigarette burn to remember the incident by.

Sign the Resident_Evil_5_Petition for a Wii release or Dark_Samus is going to come get you.

With FFXIII a Sony exclusive so far, I doubt that SE is in anybody else's court. They have gone on record as trying not to take sides and keep the console industry balanced...

I assume they want all three to succeed so they have more leverage with the console vendors.

Industry people are starting to make very pointed remarks at Sony. It isn't that they are switching sides or anything like that. They are just tired of the inconsistency Sony has shown with the PS3 and they want it fixed. Its that simple.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
