taking out the combat could be a good thing, make it more like old alone in the dark games, or the old clock tower games.

If you never get your hopes up, you're never disappointed.
On the other hand, you tend to listen to The Frey a lot, and will likely decide to "end it all" sometime before your 25th birthday.
