Forums - Gaming Discussion - Stranglehold Demo for PSN

Got this with the PSN update today, I didn't think it was going to be very good, but I think I'm actually going to get it after playing the demo, it really is fun. It feels like Max Payne with messed up super moves. With one of them you can zoom in on them in slow motion, shoot at them, and the camera will follow the bullet all the way to the guy, and the guy will get hit and writhe around in context sensitive ways until he dies, depending on where you hit him.

With another, you basically go into RE4 mode, the same camera angle, and I think you're invincible for like 8 seconds while you blast everybody with infinite ammo, all powered up. Everything kind of gets tinted blue during this one, if memory serves.

And with the last, you just kind of activate it, and he spins around and kills everyone in the room all stylish like. Not as cool as the other ones, but saved my ass on more than one occasion nonetheless.

Was just wondering if anybody else played the demo yet. Seems pretty cool to me. Minor spastic camera problems, and a bit of wierd occasional slowdown, but otherwise good.

Oh, and also, there is a multiplayer mode where you can still use most if not all of those supers, you're basically up against an assload of other Tequilas. Can't play it, it's just on video, though.

Downloading it right now. How long this demo is? I'm asking because it's pretty heavy (1.3GB).

It took about.....10 or 15 minutes? But it has 4 difficulty settings, you get the first two supers basically automatically, but you have to beat it again on the other settings to get Barrage and Tequila Spin. Rather impressed with the level destructibility. It even has checkpoints, like 4 or five throughout.

Also the perfect aim or whatever the pistol snipe super is called is super awesome, they even react to which part of their heads you hit, you can put it through their throats, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, cheeks, anything, they always react differently unless you hit them in exactly the same spot.

Must say its very mehhh.

Well, personally, most games in this genre are a little meh...it's kind of similar to Dead to Rights as well.....but I'll be damned if it isn't fun, feels a lot smoother than any of the others I've played, and the supers are cool.

I saw a couple of framerate hitches on the 360 but they were quite brief.  Overall the game feels like 60fps but I could be wrong.  Maybe someone who knows can chime in.  How bad, exactly, was the framerate issue?

Also, what is your take on the graphics?  They are next gen but not cutting edge by any means.

I personally thought it was a helluva lot of fun.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)

I would say problems with framerate are minor but noticeable (when things gets really messy you will spot some glitches). Personally I don't care if game runs 30 fps or 60 fps as long as framerate is stabil (for example Resistance is super stabil with 30fps... while NGS runs 60fps but you will spot at least one place in game when it noticeable drops). Yeah, graphics definitely isn't outstanding. Just solid. I don't like the fact corpses vanish after a while... binders in reinforced concrate columns suck ass...

Game is definitely really fun - solid cover system, tequilla mode etc. I like the climate. Cool game. I would say 8/10.

About to go play the demo, but Gametrailers has reviewed the game and gave it 7.7/10.

I beat the game on easy mode so for my second time i went to the next level, got half way done the demo, and was using the barrage mode with the shotgun in a big area with all the crap flying around then the demo started to drop frames then it froze and i had to get up and reset the system :(

But the game was fun, i will be buying it from what i played on the demo, i'll get the blu-ray movie one. The story in the demo was pretty funny too.
