Forums - Gaming Discussion - Metal Gear Solid 4 vs Super Mario Galaxy. Which is the Greatest??

My two favourite games this gen ;_;

Both of them blew me away the first time round.
Galaxy kind of lost its magic by the third playthrough but I've only played MGS4 once (waiting for trophies >_>), so I'm still stuck with my first impression on that one.

For that reason I say MGS4, but it's close...

No explanation is needed. Super Mario Galaxy is tied with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time as the best video game ever created.

MGS4 shouldn't even be thought of when thinking about SMG.

lol this thread stunned me.

I liked Galaxy but you really believe that?  Galaxy impressed you that much?  To me it was comparable (but worse than Mario 64).

I dont know what it was but playing Galaxy captured my imagination like no other game had since OoT.

This is why i consider it so great. Just like OoT Now, i have a feeling that in 10 years the industry will still be talking about the greatness that is galaxy

hello how are you.

I was already on the older side when I played 64, and I think Galaxy is a better game by quiet a margin, assuming you are good with the wiimote and running with your head facing the way that is down in your normal perception. People, please, donot use the first 30min-2hours of the game as a judge since it's pretty much tutorial time until you get to the real thing, you should only judge if you've played both games to the end.

I did play both games to the end.  I enjoyed some parts of Galaxy, certainly.  (It's the best game I've played on the Wii beyond Wii sports).

But again,  I didn't get a "Wow" factor after playing it.  I mean you get to run up some walls and do different things with gravity.   But beyond that?  Just seemed pretty basic.  The jumping was similar to 64.     To me it was Mario 64 in space.

I thought the camera angles were somewhat annoying throughout the game (Which was apparently part of the challenge).

It seems to me that more people will enjoy Mario more simply because of the game genre it belongs to and most people voting that way don't really 'enjoy' MGS4 games.  Anyone can pickup and play a Mario game easily and jump right into the action so to speak.  Metal Gear Solid 4 is far more of a niche genre (IMO) and being the fourth in a series it somewhat assumes that you've played others in the series.

That's interesting.  I played it (And was smiling early on in the game) but I admittedly just got somewhat bored with it by about half way through the game.  I just wanted to beat it and be done.  Mario 64 to me was just amazing.  Galaxy just seemed like a somewhat generic Mario 64 copy and the use of the Wii mote felt forced.  While Galaxy IMO was certainly the best Mario since the n64 era,  I just didn't get that same feeling I had during the n64 days with it.

that people part wasn't meant for people that played through them lol, i just forgot to seperate it with enters. well, of course you won't have the WOW factor because 64 was the first of it's kind back in the day, I'm simply comparing the 2 games is all, it is a better game, just no more WOW, you know?

I don't think MGS4 is bad or anything, it just didn't feel like a game a lot of the times, and the plots don't always make good sense with good logic if you can pin point the problems in them, it was kinda over done. but of course, that's only my opinion, I'm sure the die hard fans wouldn't agree with me.

I only played SMG 3 times because (at the time) all I had was a Wii and there was nothing else to play on it :P

sounds to me like you just got tired of it like an old wife then lol.

I think Galaxy was the better game

but MGS4 was by no means bad, it was awesome!
Galaxy was more unique and revolutionary.
