Forums - Microsoft Discussion - New Windows ad takes jab at Macs

I thought this was one of the best ads MSFT has ever made for impacting consumers, esp in a recession economy.

just so you know guys, when it comes to laptops being sold its a 50/50 split between ms and apple.

ms only dominate marketshare when it comes to home desktops.

That is completely incorrect. If you didn't pull that figure completely from your arse then I would suggest you misunderstood something. Perhaps Apple has 50% of the consumer laptop market?

Yes.  Both of the US's biggest employers use HP and Dells.... the Government and Walmart

Had a customer printing from a mac just last night and their file was shifting/resizing for absolutely no other reason that it was a mac. We had to have them open it on a pc and print it. Just another fun mac example that happens all the time.

When it comes down to it 99% of Mac and PC owners just bullshit on the web, watch porn, and play music. I'm a computer tech that deals with a lot of customers so I think I have a pretty good idea of typical use.

With that said a standard user can buy the cheapest PC on the market and be perfectly happy. But I'm pretty sure having a Mac will get you laid. I simply can't think of any other reason to buy one.

Oh jeeze, all the leading faculty at my campus must have been laid SO many times by now.

I think he was being sarcastic about that

His real point was that there is no point to owning a Mac.  Your "leading" faculty must be old and easily swayed by the Apple ads.  I can almost guarantee that half of them don't even know some of the very basic features of their Macs because they simply use them for the very basic tasks such as MS Office, internet, and email.

Sarcasm was the whole point. . .

The use of Mac computers depends on which building you're looking at. For what I have to use the Macs for, you'll need to add stuff like Adobe (CS3 currently) Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Soundbooth, After Effects (or Motion), Compressor, and Final Cut to your list to be close. In fact, I would say a majority of the macs have this kind of software on it for that purpose.

The campus is now updating some of their PC's too, I've seen new Core 2 Duo PC's (instead of P4) with widescreen monitors (instead of 4:3 ones). There are TONS of PC's though so I don't know how many they're going to replace.

Well, if they are really using the CS4 suite (or older version) on a Mac then they are bigger idiots than I thought.  You buy a Mac if you are a designer and want to use MAC ONLY software.  If you are just using Adobe software that also runs on PC just as well if not better for the price, then.... yeah... you've wasted a lot of money.

There is nothing magical about a Mac that makes them "better" for design... especially using the same software available on PC's.

The population of Mac computers depends on which building your looking at. The stuff I described is for my major and a majority of the computers in that specific building are Macs.

Other buildings (such as a building that holds a lot of business majors) are mostly or if not, entirely PC and there's a TON of them. Not only that, most PC's on campus also have a couple Adobe products on them (not counting Adobe Reader).
