Forums - Nintendo Discussion - If Manhunt 2 sells well on the Wii

if the controls are good i might have to check out MH2... butchering someone with a wiimote could be fun... as for GTA, it would be something like RE: UC, but not the main series.

I am a bit guilty of the pleasure of the murder simulator too.

Well it's not like Grand Theft Auto games have ever had breathtaking graphics. They usually have mediocre graphics with a surprisng amount of flaws.

There are hints that suggest such thing:

Rockstar Table Tennis game is comming to the Wii. That game is based on the same engine as GTA4. For me that release looks like they wanted to know what they can do on the Wii, and get to the hardware in Detail. doubt that GTA will hit the Wii in some way.

Hmm, even if it's RAGE appearance on Wii... c'mon you do realize the difference between 2(4) player tennis game and huge city with hundreds characters, cars etc... You've seen the trailer. Wii won't handle it. No way.

Yes, I do. I didn't said GTA 4 though, maybe first a story game. And there is always the posibility to downscale things. I think Table Tennis is a test of Rockstar: "What can we do on the Wii with that engine".

This game would do well to fly under the radar. From the previews that I've read, Manhunter 2 makes an excellent case for those who claim videogames are reinforcing violent behavior. How easy will it be for a congressman to show videos of kids making sawing and hacking motions in their living rooms translated into bloody murder on the TV. This will not look good for the videogame industry.

Yeah, it's too bad none of them bother to read the psychological reports and studies that pretty much prove it's a load of crap.

Of course that's the problem with living in a universe that supports the  bell curve.  a little under half the people in the world are going to be below average intellegence.  Seems like ever more people then that like to complain about stuff without reading about it first and often finding out they're wrong on the matter.

i don't think it's something that studies can really prove or disprove. however, i personally don't believe something like that has no impact. and even if 1 person out of the 100,000 who bought the game ended up being influenced by the game, it would be 1 psychopath too many. would he have become a psychopath anyway? who knows.

and again, what studies? there was just a study that came out today about how kids who watch too much TV eventually have attention deficit issues. i don't see enough video game studies.

The question is this: Are we supposed to live our lives fearing that we might set off that 1 of every 100k?

The answer is obviously - No, we do what we have always done and we deal with the extremely rare cases when they crop up.

Television and video games shouldn't be a baby sister. Though the NES was my dad.

Not quoting because it's slowing up my computer. But you can prove these things statistically and they mostly have been proven. The only problem some people have is that other people are fine using correlations without causation that don't control for a number of other of factors to rig expierments to make it look a different way. The reason for this of course is that they get paid a lot to do so.

With a degree in something like psychology, sociology or any sort of expieremental science it's fairly easy to pick apart good studies from bad ones.

If violent games are like other "vice" products if anything they lower the things they are claimed to increase.

After all, that "virtual" person is the perverbial "kicked dog" for some people. The advantage in the game however is that this dog does not feel it as opposed to if your kid takes out his stress on a real pet.

Firstly - I think ManHunt will do pretty well on the Wii. If the gestures are still in, it may well outsell other platforms.

Secondly - Definitely. A GTA will definitely hit the Wii. It may be a souped up version of the XBOX engine - with story from GTA4 or something else. Or they may be able to down sample the GTAIV engine to the Wii. Its most definitely possible - whether its the best solution, I don't know.

Quite possibly. I don't think Rockstar could ignore nintendo if manhunt 2 does well.

Manhunt 2 will have no determining factor on GTA support on the Wii.  Wii sales will dictate what get's released for it.  If it continues to dominate the sales charts...  Rockstar will want it's share of the pie.
