Forums - Sony Discussion - Anyone here has SSD drive in their PS3?

So did anyone on VGC actually install one of those nice SSD drives into their PS3 ?

Not sure if it's a good idea.

Got a CF to IDE adapter to place a FLASH card in my XBOX, but when actually reading the notes on how to do it, people noted that the card would likely die quickly as the XBOX OS writes an a lot to the HDD.

Got a 320 GB HDD for my PS3 for under $100... very pleased with that.

that would be pretty expensive and no!

You can't compare CF to IDE adaptor with normal SSD drive.

SSD has wear levelling mechanisms which spread writes beetween all available cells unlike CF cards. They are also made from better NAND cells which means single cell will survive lot more than memory card.

And well they are about 3 to 5 times faster.

But yeah the problem is we don't know how PS3 operating system behaves and how it uses HDD it could be problematic if it creates a lot of pagefile write operations.
