Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony won GDC 2009!

I think the idea of 'winning' at these shows is kinda weak... but I guess after all the 'MS pwed that show' threads after the FF news a backlash was due the first time Sony seemed to have a better showing (which I admit they did).

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I don't see how... I'm as much a Playstation gamer as a Wii gamer (probably more these days), but there was nothing major from Sony at E3. They showed not one new thing. A very short bit of Uncharted (already announced), a very short bit of GoW3 (already announced), and an even shorter bit of Ratchet (already announced).

Nintendo pulled out a new Zelda (And yes, it's incredibly awesome looking and I'm ashamed of anyone who really considers it on DS to be a negative point), is localizing 6 professor Layton games, added arcade games to virtual console, announced Final Fantasy VC and WW games (including the FFIV sequel coming to the west on WW), added the SD card storage solution.

I don't see how Sony's presentation is even debatably close to this.

Well obviously won is pretty subjective, but I would say

New Zelda
Support for playing games off SD card, and up to 32gb capacity
VC arcade games
A lot of FF WW/VC announcements
A couple of 1st party WW/DSiW announcements

Beats Sony's
Announcement of 1 game
More info about 2 games that were announced previously

I think a new Zelda + SD support on Wii (that makes it the best retro console this gen and adds 31,5 GB of space) make Nintendo win this GDC.

Wii Fit is rapidly beating PS3...

Playing now: Apollo Justice, Majora's Mask

Going to play: Little King Story

"As long as there is a Triforce, there will be a Zelda  As long as there is a prosperous kingdom, there will be an evil that wants destroy it And as long as there is an oppressive force running Hyrule, there will be a boy, in a green tunic, with a silver shield, and a magic blade, to stand against them."-The Legend of Zelda

How do you "win" the Game Developers Conference? By kidnapping the most developers? Giving the longest lectures? Packing the most seats?

If we're going off of content then Nintendo "won." Zelda: Spirit Tracks + firmware update + virtual console arcade + final fantasy X 8 + Rhythm Heaven demo = win. That's more than just trailers.

nintendo wins this category

@ op

maybe youve only heard of sony stuff,  because youve only been looking at sony stuff.  as good as trailers are i think impressions from punchout and excite truck at least match them

nintendo fanboy, but the good kind

Hmmm I like them both but I find Nintendo to be more of a winner. Sony showed trailers of long time ago announced games. New announcements is what its about. They announced R&C, which I'm very, very much happy about. Nintendo announced a new DS Zelda, update 4.0 and Final Fantasy games for on the Wii. Plus not to imagine the Layton games hitting the West announcement, but people that was announced by Level 5, not Nintendo Therefore "for me" Nintendo is most definitely the one that made the biggest impression on me.

That too yeah.

I think it's close, if it was a competition.

Sony had footage of GoW3 and Uncharted 2. They announced Rachet.

Nintendo announced new Zelda, new Final Fantasy stuff for Wiiware AND VC, made the jump to 4.0 (solving the storage problem), and talked about more wiiware and DSiware games.

Yeah, Nintendo won.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Ratchet was announced at the end of Quest for Booty. Just didn't have a subtitle. Sony announced nothing.
