Forums - Sales Discussion - Revist of console with most million sellers

Hey all, as far as I can tell, it seems that I (and everyone else who predicted the Wii would have more million sellers than the 360) are going to be validated fairly soon.

The actual number of million sellers is as follows

360 - 61

Wii - 47

PS3 - 29

Which is much closer than last time one of these threads went up. In June last year, the numbers were

360- 41

wii- 25

PS3- 15

Thus the Wii has gained 22 as against the 360's 20, and the PS3's 14.

So it seems to me that we have passed the tipping point - the point at which the Wii has started getting million sellers quicker than the 360.

Also looking at games that have sold close to a million, this fills me with more confidence that the Wii will eventually catch up to the 360. If we consider the number of games that have sold more than 0.75 million, the race is even closer, at 85 for the 360 vs 81 for the Wii.

if you agree with me, post when you think the Wii will overtake the 360

If you disagree with me, then provide some counter arguments

although you have a very good argument I still think that the 360 will be on top

go 360

360 will win not only due to the fact that its missing about 10 due to the early release + missing Others info for many games. Also it has a constant stream of great games and while the Wii will keep it close it wont beat the 360 after the adjustments.

And the PS3 well.........

@ Dark Chaos - the Wii also has a lot of games that aren't tracked in Others

Agreed. I think Nintendo said there was 70+ million sellers so I pretty sure that the 360 isnt the only one who missing a few. However the 360 is probably missing more due to the early launch and the fact that VG didnt properly track games in Europe until the time the Wii and the PS3 were released. So there are more 360 games suffering from the lack of sales in comparison to its counterparts.

If they keep this up they might catch up in 5 years.

So that's a yes from JaggedSac.

Also, I fail to see how you get that number. If you merely worked it out as the Wii gaining 2 on the 360 in this time period, then that's certainly an invalid way of working it out. if you had done that method a year ago you would have worked out that the 360 would accelerate away from the Wii in terms of number of million sellers.

You have to remember that due to the Wii experiencing increasing marketshare and increasing 3rd party support, the rate at which it gains million sellers will be increasing relative to the rate at which the 360 is

I'd hardly call that catching up.
I could just make this thread again in two weeks when Halo Wars and Street Fighter become million sellers and there'd be no apparent progress since last year.

I think you should, but make it a month just to be sure.
