Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo responds to PS3 Home

Following Sony's announcement of its new online community software, PS Home, Nintendo has gone on the offensive, deeming the service "an example of Sony's 'Mii-too' approach." When asked of the company's thoughts on Sony's online plans, Nintendo told CVG: "This is an example of Sony's "Mii-too" approach. But as Mr. Miyamoto states, Nintendo years ago considered and rejected the type of approach Sony is now taking", presumably referring to creating a virtual online world.

Mii-too... amusing :) Seriously though - it was a great presentation from Sony. But now the pressure is square back on them - to make it a reality, and to actually get people to use it. I don't go for these sort of things on the PC anyway, so no real reason why I would be interested to use it on the PS3. More interested in LittleBigPlanet....

Well, I suppose it wasn't long until Nintendo bashed Sony

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

This is funny. I really do not think home could have been created ever since the Mii's were announced so I do not think any reasonable person would believe this is a copy. Not to mention the link I posted on another topic. What I want to know is what MS and Nintendo are really thinking about this news.

I saw this in the comments on Slashdot and thought it was amusing ...

(Sony exec) Phil Harrison is sitting in the front row (President of Nintendo of America) Reggie is standing off consulting with people, posing for pictures, etc. A kid in the front row shouted at Reggie "REGGIE! You gotta kick some ass and take some names!" "Like who?!" Reggie shouted back "Phil Harrison, FRONT ROW!" The kid says "I think we already did that" Says Reggie The nearby crowd laughs, as is appropriate.

It probably isn't a copy of Nintendo's Miis but I wouldn't doubt that Nintendo discounted this approach already ... For the most part systems like Playstation Home have existed since the mid 90's (in some form or another) and have failed ... Now, a large portion of this is probably because they're poor implementations but I think there are certain limitations to a system like this preventing it from being more popular.

I believe that. Nintendo is coocking up some good things. I still loove the wii interface. I think SOny has the means to pull this off though. Any hesitations I would have about this evaporated when i saw the video. Seriously when Kotaku broke this news I really wasn't interested. So to get a person like me interested in this feature is a good thing. If this works out this might be a big thing but until then I am going to try to get worms on the XBLA.... I love that game to death.

Nintendo is back to it's cocky old self. Maybe it will bite them in the ass like it did last time?

If anything Sony's the more cocky company...I think Miyamoto made a good point, as Nintendo already has their avatar type system...but Sony's certainly looks interesting.

This comment was only made by some random exec put on the spot - its not like its official Nintendo policy, or that Shiggy said it to the GDC crowd. That would have been classified as a stab at Sony ;)
