Urgh, I have nothing against Apple and I love iMacs but god, how can people be so deceived by iPods. They are god awful MP3 players and are ridiculously expensive for what you get compared to players by Creative or anyone else for that matter.

Poor battery life, little storage, and yet you pay such a huge premium on those things its stupid.

iPods = Fashion Items, not MP3 players.

I love how everyone seems to think the Zune is the iPods biggest competitor, when it cleary isn't. Creative anyone? The new Zen was just released a week ago and it offers some serious competition to the Nano. The 8GB Zen costs the same and has simular dimensions as the 8GB Nano, except the Zen's screen is 20% larger than the Nano's, it has an OLED screen of 16 million colors, has a built in microphone/FM radio/recorder, and has an SD slot so you can upgrade you memory for pennies. Honestly 1GB cards these days are <$10 and will only go cheaper.

MrMarc - It's interesting you see the fact that it is fashionable as a drawback. One thing I really like about Apple is that they make all of their products really good looking.

For some reason most electronic devices are really quite ugly, they just don't bother to design them, and I can see no excuse for that. The fact that Apple took the effort to make the ipod attractive is a real positive, if you think it has made them just a fashion accessory then so be it but it's better than just making an ugly product.

Also the scroll wheel rocks!

Yeah i got to admit, but I love apple because their products are so well made and so much more useful. Macbook>any laptop I have seen. Do NOT let me get started on how cool the imac looks btw.

yea that thing is pretty cool, but i will probably pick up the 80gb ipod because that is such a good deal.

Wow its weird that they drop the price of Iphone by $200 and then, in the same day, introduce a bunch of overpriced stuff. It's almost like they will drop the price after Christmas for all those products if you just wait.

 I'm not sure if it's worth having at all in Canada. It would almost certainly be locked onto Rogers' network, and their data services charge even more than AT&T for a worse service.

 Data plans stink in this country.

I'm certianly not disagreeing with you there at all, iPods are great to the eye, but maybe I should've defined a little bit what I meant by 'fashion item'. It's the one thing everybody wants, and so they will pay through the teeth to get one because everybody else has one as well. I see that as an encouragement to Apple to continue making the products the way that they do.
 
iPods do look nice, but there are far better MP3 players out there which are far better value for money, iPods don't offer value for money at all. Storage and battery life are the two things which should be the major selling points of ANY MP3 player, iPods just aren't great in either of these respects.
 
iPod Nano 8GB for roughly £130-140 brand new or a Creative Zen Touch 20GB with a confirmed 20+ hours battery life for £140... it's an old MP3 player yeah and it's bulky but why should I care what it looks like, I only want to listen to as much music as I can...
