Edit: Oh, and they won't get away with 60 dollar games on a 99 dollar machine. Good way to lose the multiplatform to Sony.

As far as I remember last time M$ dropped the price it worked amazingly well. Since it dropped price, the last 6 months PS3 in Europe has only been above 360 sales once. Whereas before price drop 360 was always losing in Europe. :)

 

 

   By amazingly well you mean that they had virtually 0 year over year sales growth between 2007 and 2008?  Do you mean it was outsold by the more expensive Wii by better then 2 to 1 over the holiday?  Do you mean how it still barely beats the PS3 despite the PS3 now costing literally twice as much?

   If the 360 cut to 199 was an "amazing win" I'd hate to see your version of epic fail.

The more MS sells consoles the more software they seem to move as well, which is where the real repeat money is made. Every week MS shows that their software numbers are incredible. You can say all you want about the console race being closer in some European countries or Japan, but I hope you realize that North America makes up roughly 47.5 Percent of the entire console sales this generation (where XBOX is easily king) (49 % if you only consider the HD consoles) so if Sony is winning in Japan, Germany and a few other European countries that is almost like saying McCain did well in the election because he won in Arizona or Texas.  If you did a comparison of the HD consoles MS has 58 % to Sony 42 % and that is world wide which last time I looked is a big landslide.  (and that includes the people that only bought the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player)

If 360 drops to $99. It has a good chance to outsell the Wii if it doesn't drop in price to.

But if 360 drops to $99, that's game over for PS2 which is what I think MS really would be trying to do by doing this...

Yes, then the Wii will pull out all of its guns (price drops, color variation, bundles), and the 360 will be in the same spot again.

depends on what comes with it. Maybe if it has that motion control thingy that was announced it will be close. But i seriously doubt M$ drops it to $99. probably $149 or $179 will be the next drop.



I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

The 360 makes a lot off of Software but at the same time, I don't know if it would compensate enough..Of course then again, I'm only assuming it costs more than 100 dollars to make a 360. :p

 

 

lol yeah, a pretty safe assumption.

Also, it will be $99 AFTER the retailer margin and distribution costs... so MS would get about $60 or so back from each console?

I highly doubt this rumor is true

Will it outsell the Wii? maybe for a month or two, then situation back to normal.
