I think F.E.A.R 2 is distinctly average, but compared to Alone in the Dark it's a masterpiece.

F.E.A.R 2 also has the potential to scare you a little. Alone In The Dark, on the other hand, will just have you glaring angrily at your monitor, wondering why the game was ever made.

FEAR 2 is fun. FEAR 1 is so and so you probably hate it like i did, in fact i never finished it. DEAD SPACE is awesome! SILENT HILL is alright.

i think you will enjoy fear 2 and dead space more.

when you decide to buy a scary game again, consider Penumbra too, you can find it on retail or through GamersGate, Steam. it's effectively a first-person adventure, featuring a rather wonky combat. interaction is done with a cursor, like adventure games, but they are motion-based (click and drag forward to open a door, for example). the combat is done in the same way, you gotta swing a hammer or other weapon, and even though it sucks (at least in Overture, don't know about the other chapters) you can also hide yourself in the shadows to avoid it (sometimes).

I would choose Alone in the Dark.

I really wasn't impressed by either game, at all. FEAR 1 I bought and brought back for a re-fund within a couple of days. FEAR 2 is alot better but I still don't really find it much of an entertaining game. The "scary" bits feel really disconnected from the gameplay of the game. I just don't like corridor shooters anymore.

Alone in the dark... well the demo was so bad I'm not going to say anything else about it.

From what I've heard. FEAR2 is mediocre. Alone in the Dark is abysmal.

If your looking for a good game, I would look on Steam.  There are some very good, affordable, games out there now.  I just recently bought The Path, which I expect to be very interesting.

Calling Silent Hill garbage is like calling Resident Evil garbage. I don't see how you can say that.

Did SH Homecoming come out for the PC already? Flew under my radar. Will have to get it.
