Forums - Gaming Discussion - Do you consider the Wii part of this generation?

No, I don't consider the Wii a games console. I consider it an entertainment device, Same for the PSP (though sadly I own a PSP for its media functions).

Then again the 360PS3 have gone the other way and they are getting too hardcore for my liking with no "fun".

Bring back the SnesGenesis I say.

I can only look at this with squinty eyes.  If anything when it comes to "entertainment" outside of video games.  PS3 and X360 have loads more content than the Wii.  Movies, videos, music, etc.  Things the Wii is sorely lacking.

The PS360 being "hardcore" as someone said earlier today seems to boil down to FPS/fighter games.  Other than that one can easily argue the only difference between the HD consoles and the Wii is the heavy use of graphics and of course the control scheme.  That is not hardcore.  Also, your opinion of no "fun" on PS360 is pretty biased.  I may not like playing my Wii but at least I don't say its no "fun".

Also, lets not step backwards.  I bet most Wii ownsers will say SNES/Genesis can't hold a candle to the Wii.

1) A troubling note for the industry - 6th generation consoles continue to outsell 7th gen consoles and show no signs of slowing. This is the first time in history a previous generation has outsold its successors.

2) Nintendo is the first company to launch 2 entirely seperate home consoles in the same generation since Atari did it in the 2nd generation.

3) Nintendo is on track to win the 6th generation, dethroning the PS2, a surprise considering how late it entered the race.

4) Wii holds the record as the latest entry into a generation in history. The 6th gen started in 1998 with Dreamcast, and Nintendo waited until 2006 to release the Wii, making it 8 years. The previous record was 7 years, held by the Sega SG-1000 (released 1983), from the 2nd generation that started in 1976.

5) Developers are supporting two generations of consoles with multiplatform titles, and even new exclusives, a practice that was previously quite rare.

6) The 6th gen is the longest generation in history at 10 years, and projected to last up to 15 years. The previous record was 9 years.

7) The 7th generation is on track to have the lowest sales since the 3rd gen. So far it's the most dissapointing generation in history.

8) Publishers who invested heavily into the 7th gen, including Midway, THQ, Atari, Eidos, EA and Lucasarts are struggling.

No.  Just no.  The Wii is not 6th gen.

I think he was pointing how absurd the argument is, not agreeing with it.

Well, I've seen some of his posts before. Somehow I can never shed the notion that he isn't wii biased.

Its OK just checked on Wikipedia. Wii is indeed Seventh gen

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_video_game_consoles_(seventh_generation)

So you're saying that I'm in a later generation than my parents because i have more vertical pixels than them.

generation refers only to release dates, not to graphics or controls. This is not a matter of debate, this is the definition of the word

Yes, why shouldn´t I? Everyone´s only talking about the lame graphics the Wii offers, but controls are "technic" as well. And it was the controls that pushed the Wii were it is.
