Forums - General Discussion - Racist Cop Shoots Elderly Black Man in Louisiana

Right. You want to know "where is the racism in this article"? Correct? Did you read the article? Are you familiar with the history of this country? Are you familiar with the cultural conflicts in this country? a conflict manifested in violence? In this case known as police brutality and/or murder?

I take it you're a believer in coincidences? I don't. I don't think it is a coincidence that 9/10 times there is a minority as the victim while the perpertrators (cops) are not.

The South continues to perpetuate racism and racist ideas, which in turn can sometimes lead to questionable actions. Or were you under the belief that since Obama was elected president these social barriers were destroyed?

The question I guess I would have for you, if I was interested in your answer is "how could you NOT see the racism in this article" But then I am reminded of an old saying "ignorance is bliss"

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

So you believe it's automatically racist because the cop was white.

Congradulations.

You're a racist.

Should I believe every Arab who attacks someone is doing so because he's a terrorist?

^^Probably the dumbest thing I've ever read. The conclusion you arrive at and analogy you used is so irrational. But I understand, you've been exposed as a simpleton. This conversation is over.

Arius Dion - Please quote the exact part of the article that says that the cop that shot the man and possibly planted the gun was, or is, racist.

In fact, do a control-F on the article, and find the word 'race' in the article. You'll be surprised how many times it pops up.

At any rate, the article gives no mention of race being a motivator in the crime. The only person that made a race-driven comment (it seems) is the Chief Mills...And not the cops involve in the indecent.

Sounds like a rookie cop made a stupid, stupid move, followed by another stupid, stupid move. If this is indeed true, I hope both cops go to jail.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

^^As I've said I don't believe in coincidences in cases like this, they are far too common. Absolutely stupid move after stupid move, but you cannot take race out of the equation when it is staring you in the face, and takes place in one of the most historically racist states in the country.

Also, when neither cops are convicted of this crime and get off scott free, will that be considered a racial injustice? Or just injustice with racial undertones?

No, it'll be the judicial system screwing things up like they do so often.

Not everything is done due to race. I don't get how you think this is a racial coincidence. If this was a white guy that got shot by white cops, you wouldn't care.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I'm saying I DONT think it is coincidence, In this country Race is intertwined in all aspects of our society. If a white guy got shot by white cops I wouldn't care? What are you talking about? If this thing happened and all parties involved were white, I'd say this was a senseless murder, just as I said originally. The fact is police brutality and "mistakes" happen far too often to minorities and the perpetrators of the brutality or murder just happen to be white.

Not all white cops are racist, let me make that clear. Crooked cops are made up of all ethnicities and backgrounds, that is not the point. The point is that in this particular situation we have an elderly black man shot dead in his own house and a supposed gun being planted on him.

I'd bet the farm that both cops get off. And while you may want to say that is just "justice system screwing up" It goes deeper than just that. Especially given the historical context of how race and racism come into play into the justice system. You cannot separate race from this articles equation.

Because everything is racially motivated, right?

And look at the article - how many times is race mentioned as a motivator? Once. And it's not by either cop.

Does it matter if the guy that got shot was black? I don't think so. I still believe this was a dumb rookie cop that made a huge mistake and shot the guy. Not because he was black, but because the cop was stupid.

I find it interesting you say that if it was a white-on-white crime, it'd just be senseless. Now since it's black-on-white then it *obviously* must be racial!

I think the only way that we're going to get past the whole issue of racial strife is when we stop looking at everything as being racially motivated, and get down to the core issues of right & wrong behavior. If the firearm was planted on the guy, the cop should be tried, convicted, and locked away - not because of racial motivations, but because it's the right penalty for the crime.

Furthermore, what if the blacks in the community hated the white cops, and wanted to make a story out of it? What if the cop shot the man in self defense, and the community rallied around the evil white pigs? What then? It is a two way street 'ya know. This is why we have to wait and see how it plays out. I doubt, however, the FBI, Justice Dept. and Louisiana State Police will botch it up. Before crying 'race!' Lets cry 'justice!'

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Right. Lets separate something inherent in our society since its inception..good luck with that. Whether its mentioned once or not at all does not matter. And the dominant culture does not have the luxury of crying "RACISM" Racism means having the power to enforce rules and regulations on a minority culture. So blacks, hispanics can call em evil white pigs all they want, won't do them any good, in fact it will probably get you shot with crack sprinkled over your corpse. So no I don't think racism is a two way street..prejudice is, most certianly but not racism.

Absolutely cry justice, but don't ignore the racism otherwise you are just asking for more senseless acts like that. See subtle racism is much more dangerous than the blatant in plain sight racism imo.

Yes, I did call white on white crime (never heard that term before) a non racial crime. But I'm pretty much done with this topic..Back to Video games for me.

No. Racism does not mean the majority having power to regulate/hamper the minority. Racism is showing a preferential treatment of one race over another. It may manifest in the tyranny of the majority, but that is not the root of the issue.

Racism is a 2-way street. If you don't understand that, then you are as blind as those that deny any prejudice has ever existed. Racism, again by definition, is showing a preference for one race over another. It is not colorblind in which race decides to despise the other. It happens in America, it happens in Zimbabwe, it happens in South Africa. It happens against hispanics, whites, blacks, asians, and others. It is a manefestation of a superiority complex instilled in one race, against another. We see it also in sexism, and other -isms that believe they are superior due to their background.

Absolutely cry justice, but don't ignore the racism otherwise you are just asking for more senseless acts like that. See subtle racism is much more dangerous than the blatant in plain sight racism imo.

Injustice trumps racisim. If the law is colorblind, and judges equally, then racially-motivated acts will know that they cannot subert the law. Everyone loves to claim the race card when it benefits them, and they weaken the law because of it. Why can't we just have a society that is based on crime being amoral, regardless of color?
