@Rpruett:
Give it a couple of weeks and it will be 7 shooters in the top 10 for the PS3 vs 6 for the Xbox 360. The shooter box mantle is going to be passing to the PS3.
Tease.

If Killzone 2 can do over 5 million in it's lifetime you may have a point. Hint, it's not even going to come close.
@twesterm
Let's not play with words: of those only Haze, KZ2 and Resistance are shooters in the common sense (though I'd say that Haze is far from being one of the greatest exclusives).
Uncharted is as much an adventure as a tps, with long sections where you don't fire a single bullet. MGSIV is only a shooter if you want to play it that way, but you can go through it stealthing and CQCing people if you want.
And R&C? Really? If you want to call a "/shooter" any game where you shoot something then Super Mario Galaxy is a platformer/shooter and Mario Kart:Wii is a racer/shooter.
I'm pretty certain that when someone with less penchant for word twisting says that he likes shooters, he's saying that he loves the like of Gears, Killzone 2 and COD, not R&C or MGS. Actually I'm sure that if you sit many shooter fans in front of MGS they'll laugh and scorn its kind of action.
I don't undrestand why trying to deny that catering to that market segment has always been a particular focus of the xbox strategy. It's what worked as a trojan horse for the consoles and XBL service.
PS: in both LBP (with the paintgun addon) and Valkyria Chronicles you shoot things and people.

Hint, if we looked at Gears of War initial sales, 5 million lifetime would have looked impossible too. It all depends on the game quality. If it has longer lasting fun, people will buy it and enjoy it.

Perhaps I did go too far with R&C but Uncharted is still a shooter (adventure/shooter I guess) but a shooter nonetheless. It's been a long time since I played (it's actually on my list to pick back up) but I remember a fair amount of combat mixed in with exploration.
Anyways, my point still stands that the PS3 is every bit as much of a shooter box as the 360. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, it's just unfair to call the 360 a shooter box and then say the PS3 isn't.
-edit-
And I would still count Haze as one of the big exlusives, just not big good exclusive. It's the same way I could Too Human in that same big exclusive catagory.

Only the Top 3 are 'shooters' compared to the 360 in which the top 6 are all shooters. In terms of sales it's not even comparable.

You know, the funny thing about data is interpretation.
You wanted to read from those top 10 comparisons that the 360 is more shooter-oriented than the ps3.
But the fun fact is what that chart also tells is that the ps3 userbase may be as shooter-oriented as the 360 userbase - the problem is they don't buy shooters if it's Sony making them.
To put it another way, from a top 10 comparison we could also conclude that shooters sell as well on the ps3, it's just if they are developed/published by Sony they lack success.

I agree that it would not be a bad thing, it's just counterfactual.
@Bitmap Frogs
You can read those statistics in many ways if you want to. But seriously: what are the two most iconic franchises on the 360? What are the ones that MS pushed most in marketing? Halo and Gears.
Now on the PS3, Sony doesn't market its games nearly as much, but I saw in equal measures marketing efforts for MGS4, LBP and KZ2. And I'm sure GT won't have any less.
KZ2 will certainly rise among the best selling titles on the PS3, but there's clearly a difference in the _intents_, not just in the success these efforts are met with - as you suggested.

It's not an opinion. It's factually based that North American buyers, buy more software and are more into 'shooter' games than other areas of the world. It's also factually based that the PS3 has far less of a user base in North America than the 360. It's also a fact that even identical games that are multi-platform (Of the shooting genre) almost ALWAYS sell better on the 360 than the PS3.
You were trying to imply Kill Zone 2 was hyped like Halo 3 was and was a lock to be a AAA game? That's so ludicrous is doesn't even deserve a response. While Gears of War was just this trash game that no one knew about that defied all odds. Please. One of the producers of the biggest shooter franchises ever makes a new shooter game exclusively for the Xbox 360 around the holiday season when there is almost no other 'big' quality title out for the system? Sales are somewhat sluggish to start but legs carry it to almost the 6 million mark because it's a fun game that other people enjoy to play. When you factor in other things that benefited Gears of War initial/ original sales it's very easy to see that they are comparable.

60% of both of the top 10 selling games for each platform are shooters, just in varying order and that definitively proves your point, right? HAHA, okay. Your 'factual' analysis can not be denied!
For the record I never said Killzone 2 was hyped like Halo 3, becuase I never mentioned Halo 3. I also never said KZ2 was a lock to be triple A, I said it IS a triple A game (and therefore deserves the sales it gets).

how exactly is that again? The rest is your personal opinion, which you are of course, welcome to. |
i meant as far as realistic expectations go, i didnt mean straight numbers to numbers.....its all my opinion and i gave my reasoons why i think the sales are pretty equal as far as success goes speaking to expectations.

Okay how about this. Around 39 million copies sold to the top 6 games on the 360 (All shooters btw) compared to about 19 million copies sold to the top shooters on the PS3. Factual enough for you? We can continue if you'd like.
