BUMP: So are we attributing recent drops in Wii sales to hardware shortages or is there now a greater chance of a price cut?

I don't think there is going to be a price cut.

i dont mean imminently. But when would you expect one? Im particularly interested in whether one will come along early next year........

Early next year probably wouldn't happen, like some have said I reckon the very earliest Nintend would ever consider a price drop is Mid '08. They even went on the record to say shortly after the Wii's launch that a price drop wouldn't happen for a long time, if at all.

well that sucks then doesn't it. Looks like games are destined to send me bankrupt

Wiis are pretty reliable.

I would seriously suggest you jump on Ebay, and see if you can pick up a nice package - Wii + games < $400.

My friend sold his a while back - Wii, 2 controllers + 5 games (most crap + Zelda) for $300. Great deal!

...

I don't know if this link works, but this could be interesting. Seems to be a Jap console - modded - so it may play US, AUS & JAP games. Also comes with almost 40(!) games. Might be too good to be true...

...trade in the other games at EB, and end up with a Wii for free!

I don't think eBay takes pirated games as trade in.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I think your best chance will be for the Wii to get a decent pack-in title (i.e. one you want).

Seen a few Wii deals where Wii (+ Wii Sports) + pack-in title for around $399.

In most cases the pack-in title is crap (Cars, Sims II:Pets, etc...) but if you hold out you might score a decent one.

...

But don't get too close to Xmas/holidays - you might find the supply dries up rather quickly.

Like you, I didn't want a Wii until *BAM! It was all I could think about. Buy your Wii now. It's already the cheapest system on the market & it's selling too well to warrant a price cut anytime soon. It's really worth it!

Hey everyone, ive just decided that i simply must have a Nintendo Wii. I currently just own a 360 but my last console was the N64 and the sheer awesomeness of upcoming and existing games like Zelda, SMG and Brawl simply bring back to many memories not to own the newer versions.

I live in Australia where the Wii has a RRP of $400AU, which even with the exchange reate is grossly overpriced. I can get it for $388 but thats not that big a difference. My question is do people think the Wii will see a price cut after christmas, and if so when?

I MUST own it, but i am prepared to wait. Im already uncomfortable with the amount i spend on gaming so i'd really like a price cut, because right now i'd have to get the console, a second controller for my bro, and at least two games which would start approaching $650AU, not including future games.

So, do ppl think Australia will see a price cut or some sort of Platinum games deal anytime in the next 6-8 months?

A price cut won't be considered until after the Wii is released in the parts of the world Nintendo hasn't yet released it because of the supply/demand ratio.  Once Nintendo releases it everywhere and sales stagnate for ~6 months (which may or may not happen in 2008), Nintendo will probably do a price drop.

I would guess that they'd do it around August 2008 at the earliest, but likely later.

Seriously, it's almost the holidays. Any sales drops we see right now will evaporate in 6-8 weeks. Plus, bear in mind that certain regions (Japan, many parts of Europe) may have a good supply of Wii, but others (most of Canada and the U.S.) still do not.

Nintendo won't drop the price until next spring at the earliest, and that's only if upcoming games (mainly Wii Fit) don't start another year of non-stop sellouts like this one.
