A few comments from myself on the MC numbers - I am very suprised the Famitsu numbers were off so much - Super Robot Wars was supposed to be over Gundam Mosou, but we see it totally the opposite. Also, MHP2 was far below what I thought it'd be. I was one of the lowest predicters for MHP2 at 175k, and that was even too high :- Wii Sports continues to be the beast of the year in Japan - good going for it. Prof. Layton is getting great sales, and might end up doing great 400k+ sales. Who knows. Wii Play seems to be up - usually it gets around 65-70% of the Wii Sports sales. DQMJ continues to be a great NDS RPG getting great numbers, and actually holding in the top 10. NSMB very suprising to crack the top 10 - a bit over more brain age. Finally, Sim City DS might of ruined my predictions :-

this site has it's own chart http://www.vgcharts.org/japweekly.php seems more in line with what I expected here than the GAF info

Very interesting to see the different charts vary by SO MUCH. I wonder how much is interpolation, and how much reporting on sales from different regions. I would almost make my own figures, by taking the *highest* figure for each game (from any chart). MHP2 is disappointing - was expecting week#2 sales closer to 200k. That's a 80% drop-off in 1-week - if that keeps up, sales will be 27k next week, and gone the next.

Despite VGCharts having their info, I like MC as well, as they tend to be more accurate (supposedly. There was a report awhile ago that Nintendo putting forth stating that MC was incredibly accurate in their information) Edit about MHP2 - It's not very suprising (to a point). Many major PS2 RPGs saw tons of sales their launch day and day 2-3, but dropped off the face of the earth the next week. IE, FFXII - It sold somewhere near 1.3m units its first 3 days. Afterwards, it only sold another 1m the rest of the year. MHP might end up doing similar - only selling around another 500k the rest of it's life. Who knows. I might just be severely supply constrained. Its a very stark contrast considering most games in the US aren't that way. An average multiplier for a game in the US is around 2.5x the first month's gross (on an average, but very hard to predict). Whereas the J-market for typical games are sometimes 2x after the first WEEK.

Wii Gamer could you get into the methodology of how you decided to use Famitsu and not Media Create or Dengeki? Back in the old days (I think like pre 2004), it was always assumed Famitsu had the best numbers. But since MC became public, it seemed that were considered the best. Is there any explination for the differences? I have read it is simply different methodology. MC is said to use only hard data, while Famitsu looks at trends and history like you do in addition to known extrapolations from real data.

So is your final results then, the average of famitsu and MC's numbers and then rounded to the nearest 1/4 thousand or........?

It sounds like Wii gamer uses a weighing mechanism to compensate for over and under reporting by each tracking agency. If Dengeki is too high for 360, it is weighed against say Famitsu, if it was too low, with MC as the tie breaker...The problems I think would begin if Famitsu and MC data is weighed evenly with Dengeki data as a tie breaker. Also, if two sources (or worse yet) three sources of data are heavily skewed one way or another, it becomes necessary to use formulas to adjust the data, in which case it comes down to how much credibility Wii gamer has in being fair and balanced...which is why I think he should change his name...

How about "The VideoGameCharter formerly known as Wii_Gamer"? Seriously though, any alias, as long as not directly and intentionally offensive, is fine for most people. If people feel a name alone is doctorine enough to determine whether a person is trustworthy enough or not, than that only shows their own shortsightedness, nothing more.
