Forums - Website Topics - Aren't moderators supposed to...moderate?

I realize that there is a thread about this in the gaming section, but this issue deserves its own topic in the proper section.

In most forums, the job of the moderator is to keep discussion orderly, to enforce the rules, and to set a good example for other posters. Apparently, that standard is too high a bar for VGchartz. Rather, it seems that a few of the mods are mods solely for the purpose that they post a lot, and do occasionally make legitimate contributions. This is not the case for all the mods, but it is true for several mods.

In the aforementioned thread, ckmlb comes in, throws in a sarcastic statement that will create "discussion," to term it lightly, and then leaves the thread immediately after. The thread turns into a flame war on his behalf. This does create a lot of discussion, albeit completely off topic, non-productive, and the cause of a lot of heart burn. So how is this situation handled? Is the thread locked (since it is completely off topic and in the wrong section)? Does someone try and soothe the flame war? Well, not really.

DKs response - Shams is just as bad. Wow, wow, wow. So the answer to a mod causing a flame war is... so do other mods? Are you serious? Well thats nice, more fuel for the fire! So going along this wonderful route, there is more "discussion". Finally, to top it off, this wonderful nugget of advice -

"Has anyone been warned or banned by ckmlb? I got the impression he was avoiding doing any actual mod'ing just to avoid these kind of discussions. Anyway, let's bring this back on topic. If you have a problem with a mod, PM/e-mail ioi about it. And then he can laugh at you and delete it and tell you to suck it up. ;)"

So a forum that complains about the bias of NeoGAF revels in the self aggrandizing and biased behavior that has been the main complaint against NeoGAF. Something seems wrong about this, which is why I am complaining. Hopefully something good will come of this, but apparently I should expect to be laughed at and told to suck it up.

this site is moderated just fine for the most part, if you have an issue, just pm a mod that you think will care.

PS i wouldn't bother with ckmlb now =p

Who's DK?

I don't think I've ever seen Shams flame any wars

also I think alot of us have received warnings...

My favorite warning I received was for this comment

Great news, though a lot of it is just catching up to what the 360 can already do, this definitely increases the PS3's value to me if/when I ever actually get an HDTV.

mods do remove the ban on HUS.

as u can see in the forums there are many controversial posters bashing the ps3.

yet no action is taken.

just because ps3 well-wishers are few in this forum it seemed HUS was trolling at times.

However with proper scrutiny you wd see that his posts were not very offensive.

I am sure vgcharts allows "freedom of expression ".

You should encourage posters so that the forum doesnt become a one sided console heaven.

This in turn makes the forum very lively and facilitate frequent NEW POSTS pertaining to gaming

seriously... you're a total retard

I'm pretty sure ckmlb was the one that banned Gballzack. After all, she was a Nintendo fanboy and a complete bitch.

Anyways, flame wars are going to come out of websites like this. It's just natural. A clash of fanboys and statistics is not going to be flowers, brown sugar, and cinnamon.

That's because this forum is actually civilized most of the time. Most people don't get banned immediatley. If that was true I'd be banned twice. They give out warnings in PM's and if you continue they'll ban you. They actually do moderate.

The fact that moderators are sitting there and actively flaming is what I am complaining about. I can see flame wars happening on a forum. I just don't believe that a moderator should be actively involved in the flame war.

Gballzack was really the worst fanboy every, damned she was the queen of the fanboys, guess who has to been king?

But the mods are pretty okay tho.

We need a mod over on the "No plans for KH on PSP" forum.
