Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumour: USB hard drive coming to the wii

"The hard drive is supposed to mount on the back of the Wii, and designed to look like a natural part of the console. A firmware upgrade will be required to use it. Furthermore, everything you buy from the Wii Shop Channel can be transferred unto the hard drive, no problem. The HD will be available in 32 GB and 64 GB models. "

Sounds good but hey it wouldn't be the first time they tease us this way.

Let's see what happens..

32 and 64 GBs sounds way too big for the Wii and will probably be too expensive as well. I could see them putting a HDD size of no more than 20 GB at the most.

Then again this is a rumour so this might not be true anyways.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

I hope this is true

I'd get one immediately.

Pixel Art can be fun.

32 GB sounds like waaaay too much for Wii. Let alone 64 GB. Geez.

This ain't the first time this exact thing has been rumored, and it still kind of stinks. Plus, 64 gigs? How many folks need that much space for a Wii?

Actually, production for bigger hard drives is chepaer than smaller ones.   A 64 GB HDD would be cheaper to manufacture than a 20 GB HDD.

The smallest HDD you can buy on Newegg right now is 80 GB and it retails for $33.00.  For just $6 more you can get a 160 GB HDD and for $10 more you can get a 320 GB HDD.

This is why Sony is adding larger HDD's to the PS3 because they are actually cheaper than the smaller ones they currently use.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Hey, look at the other systems and their hard drives and how it effects their games. Sure, 64gigs is too much for just whats currently being offered on the Wii Shop, but think about what happens when developers start to accept that the wii has a Hard Drive. Think about downloadable video services, and music services on the Wii. This is a great idea if it comes true.

*Writes lengthy reply*

*reads on to discover viper1 has said everything I wanted to say, but more eloquently*

*leaves*

Anyway, I would prefer firmware support for 3rd party harddrives, but this is still cool. Not that I've even filled my internal memory yet, and I even have heaps of channels I could delete - Mii Parade, Wii Fit channel, MK channel

They've been rumoring this forever. I'll believe it when I see it.
