Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo warns software trade prices may also rise

This is what happens when a company becomes too arrogant. I hope Microsoft destroys them next-gen.

So they are arrogant becuase they are rasing prices due to the pound depreciating? This is what happens in a global economy. The purchasing power of the pound is down, so they need more money to have the same purchasing power. Also, note that this isn't that much. It's just for new hardware (and it's not even for the DSi).

you don't see sony and microsoft raising ps3 and 360 prices.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

hmm id hate to be a wii owner
looks like the wii's momentum is going to decrease in EU unless they dont notice

bla bla bla is it a fear campaign?

Wouldn't the value of the pound fluctuate? The move seems a bit greedy considering for all we know their reasoning would no longer prove true in the future, yet it is doubtful they would decrease the price afterwards.

Oh, it's greed, no doubt. But the pound's dropped, what, 40%+ in the past year? Lots of exporters have already done this, and unfortunately more likely will. As to decreasing the price afterwards, you'll just have to count on copetition putting the whip to exporters.

Not a great position to be in, I know.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Sony's already passed on the cost to retailers for several of their other electronics, and not just in the U.K. It's a greed thing, sure, but it's global greed.

Wrong country...

Its the same here in Australia. I don't believe its actually true, but...

apparently Pokemon Platinum is advertised for "$99 AU" - DS games usually top out at "$69". Even most Wii titles launch at $79 from some stores.

Doesn't mean it's a bad idea. While this may be ad hominem, Sony has made some pretty poor desicions.

Didn't Sony have to do this with a lot of its electronics (non-game things) recently?

I also find it interesting that the people doing the loudest complaining are not from the UK but appear to be from the US.

The biggest thing is that because there is no major pound-dollar decline, the 360 with a HD is less than a Wii (170 vs 180) but the PS3 is 2x (390). Prices are from Amazon in UK pounds and appear to represent MSRP, not taking into account 3 pound discount for the Wii and 10 for the 360 (there was none for the PS3).

 Err ?

January 2008 : 2 $ for 1 pound.

march 2009 : 1.42$ for 1 pound.

If that is not a decline, I don't know what it is...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

why?

Great that they do not lower the price when the currency is high , eg € vs $ late years. atm, it's still 1€=1$ for the videogames...
