I'd go Sir Edmund Hilary.
He is the archetype of a New Zealander, a humble but great outdoorsman.
Closely followed by Ernest Rutherford.

Johann Sebastian Bach
Johannes Gutenberg
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Martin Luther
Alexander von Humboldt
were the 5 historically greatest Germans in my opinion.
(I don't count Albert Einstein for Germany, as he understandably hated the country of his birth and Karl der Große/Charlemagne, as he was historically equally important for both, France and Germany).
Out of those 5 above I'd personally vote for J.S. Bach as the greatest one.

Only five?
Edgar P. Jacobs, Peyo, Jean-Michel Charlier, Jijé, Maurice de Bevere (better known as Morris), Eddy Paape, Victor Hubinon, Jacques Martin, Willy Vandersteen, Maurice Tillieux and of course my two favorite ones: André Franquin and the one and only Hergé.
I love Belgian comics (as well as French ones). École Marcinelle! Ligne claire! Casterman!
Other famous Belgians I can think of: Georges Simenon, Hercule Poirot (yes, I know, the latter one is fictional).
Me obviously
