I know MS will be competitive, but we have no idea what the PS3 is going to do.
For all we know Sony is planning something that will get them back in the race without MS being able to do much other than matching them.
Sony knows they need to lower the price, but they will most-likely add some things along with the lower price.
There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

But havent they been removing things from the PS3. youre saying they will be bringing back BC, usb ports and reduce price while at the same time make a profit. This is impossible
BTW, where does the OP get rumors 2 and 3? I've never heard of those anywhere.
Also a $20 cut on the pro would be stupid. MS will cut price again most likely in the winter (as will PS3), but it will be at least 50. 20 cuts are not worth doing as they dont stimulate sales.
I don't know why people still treat this like a competition; at this point sony can only hope to lessen the gap.
Price and value are what matter to the consumer, and the 360 has both.
If a person wants bluray then there are way cheaper players out there.
I don't get why everyone drools over Wi-Fi on the PS3. Not only is the standard ethernet faster It's also more secure. The highest speed wi-fi goes for 360 and PS3 is G if I'm correct.
Stand alone Blu-Ray players are dropping month by month. I missed out on the $100 blu-ray player on Amazon a few weeks ago.
Live is $30 but It's worth it.
It's just that simple.

Your putting words in my mouth. I never said that they would include what you stated, now did I?
I'm talking about HDMI cable, Games, Movies, things like that.

I actually think its going to be multi SKU. One stripped down bare as nuts model (40Gb?, ethernet only, no cables, perhaps external brick) for around $279 and a full featured one (PS3 Advanced?) including headset, cables, game and ps2 software BC for $400-$420. Both of these on the 45nm GPU and CPU and with further parts rationalisation to cut costs. Wouldn't go so far to say a 'slim' model just yet though. This may not happen this year, but I think the waters were tested with 2 SKUs in the Uncharted 160Gb pack
One makes loss and other breaks even per console sold. Massively increased PSN software sales due to numbers of PS2 d/l options on store + improved standard software sales and improved revenue streams from Home, overseas deployment of video store, introduction of music store by Christmas 09 etc.
I would think a model like this would mean a profitable game division in Sony's biggest year of exclusive content release.

MS Entertainment and Devices division includes 1. Windows Mobile. 2. Zune 3. Games for Windows 4. Xbox 360 I assure you the 360 represents most of the income. Sony on the other hand DOES NOT put PS3-only numbers, they include PSP and PS2 numbers to soften the PS3 bleeding red ink. |
It also includes the hardware group (mice and keyboards, not an insignificant part), Retail copies of Office, Microsoft Auto (the money for those Sync add ons a lot of cars come with) and a ton more. Look at Robbie Bach's profile on MS's website, they roll a TON of things into that division (basically everything that isn't OEM copies of Office and Windows revenue is in there combined).
They used to break it out and it showed the Xbox division always bringing up hundreds of millions in losses (and shareholders complained). The Xbox alone is almost certainly still losing money overall so they lump it in with tons of other things. Windows mobile, devices, retail office and the rest of it aren't tiny parts, and are far more likely to be contributing to the profit then the Xbox is (even if the xbox contributes a lot to REVENUE which it almost certainly does, revenue does no good if the profit isn't there, which it almost certainly still isn't).
