Forums - Sales Discussion - Are people overreacting to the Wii's sales in Japan?

I'm fairly confident PS3 will maintain sales that are just as, if not higher than the Wii's in Japan, and this is coming from a yaoi loving bitch that wants Sony to burn and die in the most gruesome ways possible.

When sales drop 400%-500% compared to the previous year it's difficult to not "overreact"

And PS3 has the ACC bundle in April that is far bigger deal than MHG.

I say "Nothing to see here people." This too shall pass. All that they need is another good game or two with some fresh supply and they are back up to usual numbers or higher. One week a failure does not make. Now give me two months of numbers like that and I would change my tune.

Okay, but the Wii has been down year under year...pretty much all year. So I guess you've changed your tune already?

Wii already peaked in Japan and I doubt any software will allow it to reach its previous peak..
Wii sold less units the year MK, SSBB and the first full year of Wii Fit than it did the year it was sold out everywhere ( or for those that don't follow 2008 Wii sales < 2007 Wii sales).

The only question is how much weaker 2009 sales will be compared to 2008 and if the slide is going to keep going in 2010...

If 2009 ends up being only 20% or less lower than 2008 I think things will good, if sales end up dropping by 50% Nintendo will be in trouble in the home turf( but sales dropping by 50% is doubtfull, they can't have worse release titles for holyday 2009 than they did for holyday 2008 ( in term of those titles boosting hardware I mean, AC and Wii music were fines but I didn't feel they were titles that would convince customers not owning a Wii to make the jump and purchase one)).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Wii won't be beaten by the PS360 in Japan.

yea people are over reacting to anything console JAPAN sales.

I mean hell we are sitting at like at best 20k weeks now for consoles. At that pace it will take a year to accumulate a million sales in that region for said console.

Sure once a couple months some release may come out that boosts said console up to 40-50, but then next week or at best 2 weeks later back down to 20k or lower.

Its boring and i could care less what comes out when in Japan. Unless MH, DQ, or FF or whatever other big sellers over there start to up the sales to heck even 50k minimum a week for a couple months would be great to see. Otherwise we are just sitting fighting over who sold 1-5k more this week. And with leads of 7 million (Wii/360); 5 million (Wii/PS3); 2 million (PS3/360) the winners are clear.

hell at the pace of 20k per week even if the other two consoles were dropped in that region it would take 2 years for 360 to pass PS3, 7 years to pass Wii. Or 5 years for PS3 to pass the Wii. As you can see quite boring watch indeed. In 5 years are you gonna care that the PS3 finally passed the dead Wii in Japan and now has 8 MILLION consoles. boring

Way I see it, in Japan the Wii's got only a small handful of (known) big releases for the rest of this year , but its ace is likely to be a big one. The PS3 has an FFXIII demo, possibly maybe FFXIII itself at the end of the year, and...what? I'm sure I'm missing a mid-level title that'll do well in Japan, but it ain't coming to me right now.

None of this is to say that the Wii's doing well now. Heck, Iwata himself said that Nintendo misjudged the Japanese market, and would like to do better there (and soon). But who's going to beat it? The PS3? Sure, it hasn't seen the drop that the Wii has, but it's tough to go any lower than rock bottom.

Long story short, the Wii will likely continue to do better in Japan than its competitors, but below Nintendo's hopes/expectations. I've seen zilch to tell me otherwise so far. And Nintendo's been acting strangely cocky regarding its upcoming release schedule (even Iwata's getting into the act, for once).

Of course, Nintendo admits they swung and missed last year...

Bookmarked for later crow-serving.

Haha, it's so silly my thread is viewed as negative. I'm a huge Nintendo fan and I just want them to do as good as they can. But I guess everything that isn't rosy red will be viewed as an attack by people who are fanboys.

I did not say I viewed it as an attack, I viewed it as an overreaction, and it is.

Next time, before you ask the question, "should/will Ninty cut the price in (insert whatever region here)" First ask yourself "has Ninty already released Wiis of different colours, and tried official bundles?" If the answer is no to either of those, then your question is an overreaction
