From the source: "Today in our interview with Koji Igarashi (which we’ll be posting the full transcript of in the coming days) Konami’s Igarashi divulged to Game Informer Online that he’s already knows which platforms his next Castlevania games will appear on. His next Castlevania project will be for the Nintendo DS and will not be a remake like Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles and will be all new. This game is currently well into development, however, when it will actually shown is unknown. However, if history repeats itself, Castlevania titles are always revealed in North America – and usually at their Spring Gamers Day.

Considering it’s been quite a while since Konami has released a true home-console version of Castlevania, it’s no surprise that after the next DS project Igarashi plans on releasing a new Castlevania title on the Xbox 360, and possibly the PlayStation 3. That is, if PlayStation 3 sales pick up. Also, whether it will be 3D, much like the last few PS2 titles, is also undermined at this time. It looks like Igarashi-san may want to try his hand at finally making a 2D version of Castlevania."

Awesome. I love the DS Castevania games. It will also be interesting to see if they can transition to 3D and do it right. The other 3D Castlevania games have been rather underwhelming.

Yeah hopefully the 360 one is 2D, because in all honesty the 3D ones sucked.

the last 3D one was alot better than the previous, but none have been very good or have even felt like a Castlevania game.

It would be really nice to see a 1080p 2D one.

Definitely looking forward to another fantastic DS game.  Dawn of Sorrow remains my favorite game for the system (Portrait of Ruin was also very good).

I'm disappointed in a new game for 360 though, mostly because I don't have one and don't intend to purchase one, well, ever.  I was holding out hope for a new 2D Wii Castlevania game.  At least I hope he makes it for PS3 as well.

Make it a downloadable title on Live and PSN so you can justify a 2-D "budget" game.  I mean, I guess people would pay $60 for a new castlevania...but it just seems to lend itself to being cheaper.

Why developers don't use the power they have on the new consoles to do 2D games with super detailed sprites, animations, super fast framerate, aweZome soundtracks and amazing special effects? I would buy them.

I hope for Xbox 360 owners that this is 2D... do you remember the N64 ones? And the Dreamcaste one? :) 

Oh, I dunno. I view Castlevania as a premier title still, from the perspective of a "hardcore" traditional gamer. Symphony of the Night was one of the best rated games on the PS1, after all -- in fact, it's one of the top 10 best rated games on the original Playstation. 

Unless you just mean that 2D games should all be lower priced because they're 2D. In which case I strongly disagree.

I do want to point out, as a side note, that I totally agree with your point in the now-frozen format thread. Sony has some hugely succesful formats among their lemons, and I'd guess that one breakout hit format justifies the expense of 2-3 losing formats.

i would prefer it to go on Wii than 360.
That or bring that indiana jones back from the grave. Wii needs some whipping game.
