I don't agree with any of this.  I almost replied to the "Microsoft DEFEETED Sony thread" but somehow I held it off.  Sony is not defeated.  Nothing is wrong.  The Playstation brand is not falling.

How often do people need to be reminded.

          year 1             year 2             year 3             year 4

PS3: 5,856,110     16,871,475      20,809,951 (current year)

360: 5,895,015     13,631,951      23,279,252    28,913,386 (current year)

The above info is from this website.  The above numbers might be off a bit depending on which week you choose, but as you can see, for each systems first year they were pretty much side by side for sales.  Things look very different for the next year.  The PS3 in it's second year outsold the 360 by a little over 3 million for it's second year.  And moving onto the PS3's third year, which is the year we are in and it is far from over.  The PS3 only needs a little less than 3 million to outsell the 360.

There is even this to back up my info.  I'm sure "some" of you have seen it.

This is the only thing I really need to say to sony.

The thing I see of that

5,856,110 vs 13,631,951

16,871,475 vs 23,279,252

20,809,951 vs 28,913,386

If the Ps3 has never outsold the 360 in a year and Microsoft has said that the 360 will last as long as the Ps3 how can the Ps3 win?

You are still comparing one systems year 1 total to another systems year 2 total, and year 2 to 3 and 3 to 4.  If you actually took the time to read my post you would see that the PS3 year over year IS outselling the 360 but the majority of people forget about that extra year or throw it to the side.  They don't want to think about it and how without it, things would be different.

Sony is and always will be fine.

That's why their doing so well now, right?

In any case, it isn't as simple as this consoles year 1 vs this consoles year 1. Obviously, many other factors come into play that affect a consoles sales if it is the early one or the one released later.

Out of all the "How XXXXX defeated XXXXX" threads, this one makes the most sense. And the answer is simple- $600.

very true

I think its the fanboys that are to blame.

Their armies shrinked significantly and thus dont have the collective buying power in comparison to their hype levels.

Haha, that was brilliant. I think E3 2006 will always been seen as Sony's lowest point in the 15 year history of the PS brand. God, they really screwed up.

I love how Snake shows up in Brawl at the end as if he somehow knew to abandon ship and get on the Wii instead.

OT: Sony's failures were legion:

Price - $600

Blu-ray - not percieved as necessary - therefore an unwanted luxury cost

Late to market - Gave their most direct competitor a year head start - and that's doesn't just mean 1 year of greater sales, it means games that were in development for 3 years were hitting the 360 when the PS3 was getting mediocore games like Lair and Heavenly Sword.  It mean's MS could maintain a permenant price advantage.  It means 360 will always have a greater game line-up.  It means Sony loses exclusives because 360 has a larger install base.

Ego - They pissed off a lot of fans with crap like 'People will get a 2nd job', 'People would buy a PS brick'

But most importantly...

Ignored their own damn audience!!  - PS2 WAS the casual system last gen and it was the far larger casual (or mass) market that propelled the PS2 to such immense sales.  PS3 came out at a price only the core could love, with games only the core would care about.  The casual market was ignored and Nintendo swooped in and stole them all away to rise to prominance.   Look at Guitar Hero.  The PS2 made that game.  Not the PS3 can barely sell enough to matter.

I agree with the sentiment of the thread, Sony had more to do with Sony's defeat than MS. I will say MS capitalized on some of Sony's mistakes, but Sony is to blame for where they are right know. I think the silver lining is I hope they learned there lesson for the PS4

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

Diablerie made a chart comparing the 360's sales to the PS3's sales, year 1 to year 1 (Ps3 2006 > 360 2005). I think that if he compared the PS3 to 360 2008-2008, 2007-2007, and 2006-2006, THEN we'd have a more honest picture (and I do realise that the PS3's first FULL year was 2007).

OP didn't give much, but the title is very clever. :)
