http://wii.ign.com/articles/771/771051p1.html GDC 2007: "The Wii is a Piece of Sh*t!" One of Spore's developers rants about Nintendo's "two GameCubes stuck together with duct tape." by Daemon Hatfield March 7, 2007 - During a session at GDC this morning titled 'Burning Mad - Game Publishers Rant,' time was taken about half way through to allow developers a chance to spew their own rants. One speaker, Chris Hecker, currently working on Spore at Maxis, took the opportunity to call out Nintendo for not taken games seriously. "The Wii is a piece of shit!" Hecker began his talk, which was called "Fear of a Wii Planet." He blasted a few bars of Public Enemy to set the tone. Hecker said the Wii is nothing more than two GameCubes stuck together with duct tape, and that the console isn't powerful enough to provide the next-gen experience he has been waiting for. Although he stated the system is "severely underpowered," Hecker noted that he wasn't simply referring to the Wii's graphical capabilities. He wants to spend a console's CPU making games more intelligent, and he has found the Wii doesn't have the power to process things like complicated AI. Hecker also took Nintendo to task for not taking games seriously enough. "It's not clear to me that Nintendo gives a shit about games as an art form," he said. To illustrate his point, he searched for references to games as art on all three console manufacturers web sites. While he found numerous such references on both the official PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sites, Wii.com had none at all. He then shared quotes from executives at Sony and Microsoft talking about games as a serious artistic medium, and then a quote from a Nintendo executive saying the company only wanted to make "fun" games. Hecker ended his spirited rant with two demands for Nintendo: First, recognize and push games as serious art. And two, "make a console that doesn't suck ass."

That's what I love. It cant even run complicated AI. That's so funny. I've been saying that for about 2 months on here now. But I'm a idiot. Maybe one of the creators of Spore is a idiot too?

Once he makes a game as comercially and critically acclaimed as any myiamoto game he can complain about Nintendo not taking games seriously ... On the power note, does he also think that the DS is a piece of shit? It is after all not as powerful as the PS3 ... The fact is if you can't produce an artistically sound (reasonably intelligent) game on the PS2 you should leave the industry ... If you can't do it on the Wii you're just lazy

Ummm dude. Spore is *the* most anticipated game of 2007. Edit: At least one of them. Not sure where to find that list. But I know it's high. Really high. Watch some stuff on it. It's amazing. Possibly gonna be one of the best games of ALL TIME.

I hope nintendo keeps making fun games... I play games because they are fun. If I want art, then I will go to a museum.

@Kwaad I have looked at spore and it sounds interesting. I thought spore was going to be coming to a lot of platforms? I think the guy who had the idea for spore said this. I wouldn't be shocked if it came out on the wii. Edit: Yep, Will Wright himself said that spore is going to be coming to a lot of platforms (even cell phones). Here is something on the Wiki article I found interesting... "Wright calls the game a "massively single-player online game"[18]. Simultaneous multiplayer gaming is not a feature of Spore." At least I doubt have to worry about the wii's friend codes on this game!

'Chris Hecker' is effectively "Some Guy" who happens to work on Spore ... Would you listen to "Some Guy" from EA who bitched that the Playstation Home was a gimick and he wanted to see more of a matchmaking service like XBox Live? Until he proves himself worthy (like Will Wright) he is essentially "Some Guy" who is saying "I'm a bad developer and it's Nintendo's fault"

If I remember correctly, you just ranted about the Cell being able to do AWOSOME AI and really never mentioned the wii.

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

Who the fuck is Chris Hecker and what the fuck does he know about art? I don't see sculptors saying to painters "You know, canvas sucks. You don't get a true 3D effect with paintings...you should try marble." Art is not defined by the medium. What a retard.
