Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should Sony leave hardware biz and become only publisher?

If it were not for Sony's profanity as biz we've already seen them answering this question. Positively.

Sony lost Spyro, and Crash. They really need a good platforming game for their studious. (I think sly cooper is in the works) Most studios are 2nd party anyway like Naughty Dog, Insomniac I think so they wouldn't have many big games anyway.

With the decline of the PS2 and low software sales on the PSP and slow PS3 sales the Sony publishing empire is a shadow of its former self. I say they ought to ditch the worst 1/3rd or 1/4 of their developers to cut costs.

They said they will fundamentally reorganize their games business... Reducing the number of studios is pretty likely.

Sly Cooper hasn't been confirmed in the works.

Naughty Dog became Sony first party in 2001.

They should. I mean its all downhill from here.

I see Nintendo adopting the same strategy and releasing a underpowered low priced console with a clever gimmick to win the generation.

I see MS geting yet another year head start on the PS4 but this time, they wont have to deal with PS2 brand loyalty. Intead, combating PS3 brand loyalty should be much easier.

If Sony left not many people would care.

If Microsoft left not many people would care.

If Nintendo left, a lot of people would care.

Hardcore owners won't get very far against Nintendo. They have to cross the Blue Ocean to get there and they don't have any decent boats as they are still in the Fuedal age.

The industry needs 1 and not both of Sony/Microsoft.

That changes things a little, Jak series is really good. Sucker Punch is working on Infamous right now but most likely after they will begin Sly. It's a shame Sly Cooper wasn't more popular, the games got hidden among the other platformers on Ps2. They were always well reviewed, cell shaded graphics aren't that popular either.
