I'd probably suggest taking out the hard disc, putting it in a PC and running Partition Magic or something similar to remove the Linux partition and expand the PS3 partition back up to the full disc size.

However I've never tried this so I can't promise anything.

That's not possible, unless there's a program out there that can understand the PS3's unique filesystem.

Can one use a word processor on PS3 Linux, sitting comfortably on the couch with a wireless keyboard?  That has some appeal.

Epsilon,
The PS3 just uses a FAT32 filesystem where the contents are encrypted. You can't get the data off, but partition managers shouldn't worry about that.

LHWB,
Yes you can. I've heard you can't get access to the internal bluetooth, but most wireless keyboards come with a receiver unit that you plug into a USB port, and that works just fine.

About the internal bluetooth, I've never managed to get bluetooth working under Linux at all - I think I've been unlucky and the bluetooth dongles I've had just didn't have any Linux drivers available. I'm not sure if the PS3 bluetooth is really blocked, or just doesn't have any driver yet.

There is no reason other than having it on your system... it can't access the GPU's 3D functionality so you're limited on what you can really do with it. It would be interesting to see if someone can unlock the GPU with it... I always feel doing this is asking for trouble.

WTF?  How do you encrypt FAT32?  That's like folding a water balloon... it's possible, but it's f'n retarded... better to use something more like NTFS... also alot of shit is blocked... better to find an unofficial version of linux build for the system if any has been released.

Thanks for your input. I think will just make a backup of the important files and do a format.

Does the 360 support any Linux distro's? Just curious since I guess the Wii wouldn't be able to with the lack of a HDD.

The only teeth strong enough to eat other teeth.

I don't think the Xbox360 supports Linux at all even unofficially but Microsoft does have a cheap programing service for developers. Also I do think the Wii has homebrew Linux support... hope that helps.

The Anarchyz, how old are you?

My question is legit, if there is real benefits for Linux on the Sony console, I'll install it on my PS3 too.

you can run firefox

you can run vlc (for some of those codecs that nothing else seems to run!).

you can run openoffice

you can connect up a printer

basically, your ps3 is a computer, install linux, do whatever you want on it.
