Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox 360 soon to hit 1 million in Japan, Microsoft must be pleased.

UNBELIEVEABLE that there is a discussion about the chances for MS to overtake Sony in Japan. Great great job MS. Well done.

The Xbox360 has doubled the lifetime sales of the Xbox already, while the PS2 was at 9.3 million units at this point and the PS3 is at 2.9 million.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Even if the 360 sold like crap in Japan, it would be of Microsoft's best interests to still develop for Japan.

Just to name a few great companies from Japan
- Square-Enix
- Konami
- Capcom

If MS were to stop producing consoles for Japan they could lose support from those companies, and of course that would be bad.

It's just that simple.

Too right. Whatever would we have done without Frogger 2!?

For JRPGs yes, weve seen the 360 contribute a good amount, if not leading the sales, as for everything else, they jumped on board before MS made strides in the region

Konami has been dissapointing, while i already own MGS4, it would be nice to see it on the 360. Theres no reason to ignore the system these days

Their strategy is slowing paying off.

COmpared to last gen, hardware and software sales are through the roof by comparison, with developers in Japan actually making games for them (with MS $$ compensation but thats beside the point).

Im curious about next gen with MS in Japan.

Japan is a small market nowadays and insignificant for the console wars.

In 2008 the combined sales of Wii, PS3 and X360 were 46.4 million worldwide.

But only 4.14 million of those were in Japan.

That's only 8.9% of total sales.

Yeah, you say Japan is a small market now. Wait til the Sony JRPG fans start talking about JRPG sales. They rely mentally upon Japan and you know it.

It's still a small market. The reasons JRPG fans start talking about the sales in Japan is because Sony hasn't released that many JRPG's. None of their "exclusives" have hit the US yet. VC and Disgaea are both still considered just strategy rpg's.

Japan has always been one of the big three (which means it's large enough). This means they are still a focal point of consumption (See Wii sales as well). JRPG's are Japanese oriented RPG's. The Japanese devs need to evaluate where JRPG's are going if they want to hold the attention of JRPG fans in Japan. Nintendo is really doing a number over there. Capcom and Namco are also doing a number in the arcades.

What are you talking about? Wii RPG Sales haven't done shit either.

The only systems that sell RPG's are PSP and DS.

That's because only the PSP and DS sell well in Japan, nowadays.

Gathering a large enough following for next gen Microsoft game console? I hope so. However, looks like mobile gaming is taking over Japan.
