Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you still expect the Wii to have sold 50 M by the end of March?

will see the advantages of certain types of games on the other systems when FFXIII, for example, is released. It will make Wii rps look as N64 rpgs would have looked in comparison to PS2 rpgs or worse.

What? What does that have to do with anything about anything? What does it even mean?

Is this another "lol Wii graphics suck" kind of thing?

@khuutra my original point is that as of this writing it looks as if the Wii will fail to reach the projected 50 million sold by 3-31-09. Then some people asked me to explain my position, and views on certain matters, so that is what I have been doing.

@bt - on the issue of graphics (ff13 vs wii rpgs), wouldnt the same be said of PC rpgs vs ps3 rpgs? After all, PS3 hardware IS 3 years old now. RPGS arent about graphics, never were. A bad story can kill an RPG, even the most beautiful work of art.

very true Bard..I also have to shake my head when ppl talk about FF being a series that pushed graphical boundaries when it has always been on the weakest system in each generation, save for this current one.

It seems the OP was just attempting to create a platform to voice his other opinions (although very out of touch with reality) not having anything to do with the original question. It was amusing for a while but now its just sad and borderline pathetic.

I think the Wii will hit the 50 Consoles sold mark mid April. In all honesty the Wii may be the only system this gen to reach that milestone.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

@bardicverse, they could however you don't see to many epic single player storylines in rpgs on pcs these days Warcraft and a few others are about all you see when it comes to rpgs on the PC and WoW is about the only popular one. The few single player jrpgs that are released for the pc are usually only released in Japan and hardly ever make it out of there unless they are console ports. So comparing the types of rpg you most often on pcs to the types of rpgs that appeal to fans of console rpgs is like comparing apples and oranges. Now when one is discussing core games coming to consoles one genre that is always discussed is jrpgs. Wii fans talk about the rpgs coming to their system as games that will attract large numbers of gamers to the system in the future. But the fact is none of these games coming to the Wii will look anywhere near as good as FFXIII or Versus XIII nor do they carry the same brand recognition in the West, so I don't see jrpg fans flocking to the Wii for these types of games.

The same holds true in other genres too. Like action adventure, shooters, and racing. eg. you don't see Dead Rising Wii shattering many sales records this past week.

@BT - I understand your point, but you're shifting back to graphics. In my personal opinion, FF games lost their charm and story after 6. I think the Tales games are a lot more interesting. Of course, this is a preference thing, and opinions do vary title to title.

Yes, if you're talking about sales, then yes, FF games will usually outsell most other RPG games. Yet in the US, it is more likely for FF13 to sell better on the XB360 than the PS3, plus there's been talk of a PC version coming. Also, from Wii perspective, a lot of Wii fans/owners are waiting for FF Crystal Bearers, so that will likely do well also.

Assuming that the week ending 28th february saw another 150-200k sold Wiis, there are still 2,4-2,5 Mio Wiis missing and I would say that is too much for March. Sales in Japan are too low for that. However, with MH1+3 in April, we should see 50Mio Wiis some time in April.

No

@Arius Dion, the FF games may have supposably been on the weakest system of each gen however when it came to 3d graphic ps1 was superior to the Saturn and in its time PS2 was graphically superior to Dreamcast, and no rpg and very few games in other genres on N64 looked as good as games like FFVIII and later rpgs from Square on PS1 nor did any rpg on Gamecube look anywhere near as good as FFX-XII on PS2.
