Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The look of an RE game on the wii

If Capcom do port over RE5, Remake RE2 or just make a new one should it have cartoon style graphics since ppl say that works for the wii or continue the most realistic look they can do with the wii hardware like RE4?

Cartoon style graphics work on any system, not just the Wii.

Taking a franchise that does not have cartoon style graphics and then randomly giving it cartoon style graphics because you think that will help sell your games to the Wii audience is very insulting to the Wii audience. That's why the old realistic Madden outsells the new cartoon Madden.

They should stay realistic.

They could just make it look like RE4++.

So how do you feel about Ghostbusters and the new Excitebots?

For RE I would not be in favour of a cartoon style - unless it was some style that added to the tension somehow. Can't envision what that would be but MadWorld's style adds to it considerably. I would rather a Wii RE be more focused on Horror/survival than shooting though.

For other games that are debuting on Wii - Ghostbusters, Grand Slam Tennis - I've no problem with the cartoon style. In fact I think I'd prefer the EA Grand Slam Tennis look compared to Top Spin realistic look. It also helps a lot to make the Wii version look crisp and clean when compared to HD version. See Shaun White for a perfect example.

But for existing titles, I'd rather they stay true to form. I wouldn't want to get Tiger Woods '10 and find I'm forced to be putting with Miis... unless it was an option in addition to the traditional realistic look, in which case that would rock!

They should take the RE4 engine, throw RE5 in it. Add a coat of The Conduit paint and call it a day.

Ghostbusters has had a cartoon incarnation, "The Real Ghostbusters" and as such doesn't feel really out of place with cartoonish graphics. Excite Truck was an arcade racer with cartoon-like jumps and terrain deformation, and as such, Excitebots really seems like more of the same. Neither seem entirely out of character. Resident Evil is a horror franchise without any overt cartoon influence. As such, a switch to a cartoon-like style would seem out of character and silly.

It would take a really talented art team to retain any kind of a horror feel with cel-shaded presentation. It could be done, but it would be easier to just stick with realistic, even on limited hardware.

I really think people grossly underestimate what the Wii can do graphically. The REmake looks incredible to this day, and that was on a system more than two times weaker than the Wii is.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

this sums it up from what capcom has so far givien wii owners
