I popped in the game, OK. Then I go to the game channel and suddenly up pops "initiating system update"! I do not remember this happening to me before. Have others had the same thing happen? Am I just dumb/forgetful? Or is it the online capabilities kicking in? Bad news for modders? I can see it now: Corruption Corrupted my Wii! P.S. Sorry if this duplicates another thread, but I looked in Gaming and Nintendo and didn't see it.

I turned on my Wii and went to the Weather Channel and I had to update.

I then inserted the game and clicked the channel. It prompted me to update again.

The game comes with an update on it. Not sure what the update is, but yeah. Even systems that aren't networked will update.

I think it contains all system updates up to present time, so people who don't have WiiConnect24 can still have the latest firmware.

I'm a full time Deputy Sheriff, and a Police Officer on my off days. My biggest addiction is video games. I have a hard time making time to play the games I buy. Anyway, in anticipation for Prime 3, I went back and bought Metroid Prime 2. I was devastated when I found out that the latest update made my action replay disc useless, and that by the time Corruption came out, I wouldn't be half-way done with Echoes. Forced updates suck.

yep thetonestarr is right some games have updates on em the same thing happened when i first played Mario strikers charged

The same happened to me when I borrowed Mario Strikers Charged Football from a friend and put it in my Wii. I've never had my Wii online, so I'm assuming it's meant for people like me, and probably only happens with first party games.

Highly annoying though. I was going to mod my Wii, or get a Freeloader when it comes out in order to import Brawl, but now there's a good chance that the game might include a software updates that prevents them from working. -_-

Yeah, all Wiis get that with some games, though networked ones don't have to wait as long obviously. The update only took about 10 seconds for me, since I've got mine online.

It would suck for importers though, but I think the same happens with 360 too.

I thought I heard the modchips still aren't detected by that stuff...but I wouldn't want to take the risk of the updates one day actually detecting the chip and screwing me over. IF I even wanted to mod my Wii....I live in the US so no need, really.

same thing happen to me when i bought super paper mario my wii updated it self

 As far as I am aware, the Wii can only play Wii games from their own region with current modchips (GC games can be played from any region). 

yep thats the case. when i first played re4 an automatic update came on the screen just as i started the game. wanted to try and see if i could get my wii modded for corruption, but that idea out the window now
