Forums - Sales Discussion - What's next for Microsoft and its Xbox360 in japan?

So the japanese preview is in, and as you can see, SO4 had a dramatic second week with 20K units sold. Last week, the 360 managed to sold 25k units, it must be the best it can do over there. Do u think that the console will begin to "disappear" soon, or does it have a chance to sell right this year (and next year)? And what about japanese developers, do u think they still trust the console enough to give it some good exclusives for japanese gamers? Simply: is the console a success in japan (sales wise)?

I don't think Xbox 360 will sell well in Japan without a major RPG coming out for it.

Some of the Gal Games on PC are starting to appear on 360. I guess that's a good thing.

I would say they are in a good position to actually be worthwhile for HD games to also be released on the console there. For Japanese exclusives, it will take some more "fail-safe" moves from MS.

They need to have some more in the line-up if they want to keep sales going. We'll see over the next weeks/months if MS is satisfied with 1m sales of if they want to keep pushing the console.

I can definitely see Xbox 360 getting one of the unannounced FF13 FNC titles exclusive to the platform. FFV13 on PS3, FF13 on PS360, FF(Hereasis?)13 on 360.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Well, 360 still has some games like RE5, Dinasty Warriors 5 Empires, Tekken 6, PES 2010, Bayonetta, Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2, Castlevania and possibly a late release of FFXIII. Besides that, some niche Japanese games, but nothing big. Also a lot of big western games, like Mass Effect, Halo 3:ODST, COD5 and some others which dont sell exceptionally good, but do sell decently and keep the interest on the console. Still has some games as you see.

Edit: SE also said they were going to unveil a new MMORPG athis year, which is possibly Rapture, so count that too.

I'm really interested in what will MS do to continue their Japanese expansion, i really think they have some secrets that will share soon.

Considering that it has outsold the original almost the double in 3 years i think it can be considered a success there.

In Japan? all those Multiplat games are going to be doing well on the PS3 in japan and not the 360. Sony has the edge over MS in the Japanese department so unless MS has some more big RPG's this year they might just be phased out (forgotten) in Japan until Years end

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Depends on whether MS is satisfied with 1 million units sold or not. If they want it they will get it (japanese devs support), but since X360 campaign in Japan is already a major success chances are MS will not try too hard anymore.

We'll know by September (TGS 09) if MS has something else for Japan.

Mistwalker is working in the next Blue Dragon, but we don't know anything about it yet...

What's next?? Ummmm... more games that just won't sell as well as SO4???

Isn't this for DS ?

Anyway I don't see anything big in Japan except RE5 in next few months on x360.
