So now IGN is the authority for naming consoles???? Sony released the PLAYSTATION, and then they redesigned to the PSOne, both names by Sony Computer Entertainment, the real authority for their consoles... PSX is a special DVR that plays PS2 and PSOne games... If you want to say PSX that's fine, i'll say PS1 and that's fine too, but neither one of those is official... |
Of course! No, that was just one example, but there are many more. Of course I wouldn't expect websites to choose ps1 when there was no PS2 or 3 yet, but many DID choose psx over ps. As you said, neither ps1 nor psx is official, so everyone can continue to refer to it informally either way they choose.
I was merely respsonding to Tremble asking everyone not to call it PSX. As there are no games exclusive to the actual PSX, I don't believe there will be any confusion.
SNES, thanks to Earthbound(played it on emulator), SMRPG(the same as earthbound) and FF6.

What now? Are you serious.
I'm having trouble understanding why anyone (who has actually played SNES and PS1 RPGs) would ever think this.
My favorite RPG is Final Fantasy VI, so the SNES

there is a tactics ogre game for the GBA if you have one, its a lot less rare than the ps1 game |
The GBA one is nowhere near as good. Though it is basically a prequel...
Eh it's a tough one. The loss of the AP system really hurts it IMO.
A bunch of RPG's were forgotten for SNES, Lufia I & II, Soul Blazer(terranigma is basically part 3 and illusions of gaia part 2 of this game), Paladins Quest, Shadowrun, Drakkhen, Dragon View, Star Ocean, Bahamut Lagoon and others..
I'm going with SNES because most of the ones I'd call classic are there. The original Playstation did have a bunch of good RPG's but none stand out nearly as well in my mind.
My Rpg roots began on the Snes, but I became a huge fan during the PS1 era.
And, for some reason, I lost interest during the PS2.
PS1 for the win.

I'll start with the GBA one on my DS. A quick search on ebay tells me that they go fairly cheap. There can never be too many SRPG's. |
Wait, people use the PSP to pirate games? Interesting!

That's what the second "P" in PSP is for
"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."
