Forums - Gaming Discussion - How much did Killzone 2 development cost?

I want to know if anyone has any idea how much Killzone 2 cost to develop. GTA IV cost $100 million to develop on PS3/X360/ Pc.

How much did Kill zone 2 cost SCE/GG? I have heard it cost around $60 million in development costs for Kill Zone 2 and it took around 5 years to make that game.

Edit: http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/2503.html  Here is the rumour of $60 million in development costs.

5 years well that is the amount of time I assume went into the planning and development of Kill Zone 2 from start to finish product. E3 05 - we had those videos of Kill Zone 2 which would of taken some time to put together.

You get all sorts of figures thrown about but until GG produces its company profit loss we wont know.

I expect it cost a fair bit given the length of development but I would be clutching at straws if I quoted a figure.

I doubt there is much profit in it but Sony desperately needed the Exclusive so there was more than just the immediate profitability at stake.

First off, it was not in production for five years. Even if we take the E3 2005 target render for a start time, it'd still only be 3.75 years, so you're off by at least a year, but GG was working on Killzone: Liberation until 2006, and this is when their team was < 40 people, so it's not unlikely that Killzone 2 was not being worked on until completion, or near completion of KZ: Liberation. And that would explain why it was not seen at all at E3 2006, because there was nothing to show. And then it was shown at E3 07, because they had actually worked on something that year, so it's wholly likely that the game didn't begin work until mid-late 2006, and was complete by mid-late 2008 when it went into Open Beta, and many outlets had already received review code. So I will go with the idea that it was in development for 2 - 2.5 years.

Anyhoo, No one aside from SCE and GG knows how much the game costs, so this whole thread is covered in rumor and speculation. And like Sony, I do not comment on rumor and speculation.

Well, the biggest network in Austria estimated the total costs around 19 million $.

Nobody knows. I read a post by MotherH(GG spokesman), that the game was in development for 3.5 years (1.5 for production/design, 2 years programming). GG was a 45 person company, but near the end of Killzone 2 they had close to 200 employees. The 60 million number is bs.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

I would expect roughly 40 million dollars.

It'll make a pretty huge profit.

Fanboys will try and claim it was in development for hundreds of years and cost billions of pounds.

The actual cost doesn't matter, what does it that it'll make Guerilla a nice profit.

I don't understand why people are suddenly saying it took 5 years. In Feb 2004, even the first Killzone wasn't out. And then they were working on Killzone: Liberation until the end of 2006. My guess is just over 3 and a half years, tops. As for cost, at least $40-50 million. Again, just a guess.

You're making way too many KZ2 threads... aint there an official KZ2 thread somewhere?

OT: its been in dev for about 3/3.5, not 5 years... also id say around 60+ Million
