Forums - Gaming Discussion - Has The PS3 Already Won The Exclusive Battle?

Meh. Despite my list. I still like PS3's exclusives more. They are trying against a console that had a year head start. During the 360's first year, there wasn't really many amazing titles. second year was when it started to pick up. third year kept up the momentum. Probably going to work the same way for Sony.

Also, That was a list I made off the top of my head.

Early in this generation, those who disliked Sony and had little to no faith in the PlayStation 3, derided the company for losing third-party exclusives. Along with complaints of an exorbitant price and a typically mediocre launch software lineup, this was one of those legitimate complaints that most avid PlayStation followers simply didn't want to acknowledge. It was true: Sony lost Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry, and most recently, Final Fantasy. ...and yet, here we sit, less than two and a half years later, and it seems as if the PS3 has - by far and away - the best and most promising exclusive lineup of software.

Third-party exclusivity is just about dead and buried (even timed exclusivity will soon die out as the gap between the PS3 and 360 continues to narrow), so it really all comes down to first- and second-party projects. Now, we all have to remember that top exclusive titles often are system sellers; it's a matter of simple logic, right? If you want to play Killzone 2, you need a PS3. If you want to play Gears of War 2, you need a Xbox 360. When MGS4 launched, there was a huge PS3 sales spike. When Gears 2 launched, there was a huge 360 sales spike. Therefore, there's no doubt that exclusives will continue to play a very large role in the hardware sales success of both competing companies. And as far as I can tell, Sony may have this one sewn up already:

  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  • God of War III
  • Killzone 2
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Resistance: Fall of Man
  • Resistance 2
  • Warhawk
  • Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
  • Heavenly Sword
  • Folklore
  • Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  • Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
  • Gran Turismo 5
  • InFamous
  • Heavy Rain
  • Final Fantasy Versus XIII
  • MotorStorm
  • MotorStorm: Pacific Rift
  • White Knight Chronicles
  • Valkyria Chronicles
  • MAG
  • Wipeout HD
  • Flower

And I just took them all off the top of my head; I'm sure there are more.

As far as I can tell, the Xbox 360 has the Gears series and that's about it. There are a few IPs I'm looking forward to this year (like Alan Wake), and I'm picking up Star Ocean: The Last Hope tomorrow, but comparing these to the exclusive lineup on the PS3 seems a little silly. Now, just to clarify, I am not saying the PS3 is the superior machine; this topic only focuses on exclusive titles. Secondly, as I do own a 360, I'd be very interested to learn of more 360 exclusives coming up that look good; I want to play good games. And I kinda like the idea of exclusives. I like the idea that I have to own a particular console to play a certain game; it may sound ridiculous, but it's true to some extent. So if anybody wants to enlighten me as to the 360 exclusives coming up that will act as competition to the PS3's lineup - games mentioned above - I'm all ears. Obviously, raving fanboy rants won't be tolerated and we'll get rid of you super crazy fast.

The point is, I just find it a little ironic that everyone was laughing at how Sony was losing exclusives left and right and two years later, it's crystal clear they now have the significant edge in the exclusive battle.

I haven't read other peeps comments yet so I don't know if it has already been stated but too many of those exclusives are shooters.Peeps dat don't like shooters(yes they exist) won't really appreciate this.I know Valkyria is more of an RTS and some of the games on dat list I don't know well so I didn't bolden them. With that said, your probably right about the PS3 having the best exclusives though I think GTAIV:LAD & Ninja Gaiden 2 should give the 360 a few points.Somehow, looking at games like Smashbros,MKWii,Wii Sports resort,Wii Fit,Zack & Wiki(and all other point & click games),upcoming Zelda,Pokemon(potential MMORPG or adventure) and the fact that the Wii still has the greatest potential for creativity makes me feel that the wii will have the best exclusives in the long run.

Nobody is questioning that the Wii has some decent exclusives but next time, instead of Wikipedia-ing a list of exclusives, try to weed out the bottom of the barrell as everyone else has done. SPOGS racing? are you serious?

Actually Wii has the best first party.

^In terms of quality, hell ya, but in terms of quantity, probably not.

Although for me quality >>> quantity.

As for an thread, I noticed the TC hasn't responded since he posted this so can we just label this as a troll attempt and just leave at that without trying to start any fanboy wars which I'm guessing was the point of this thread.

You make it seem as though they are just fps games or something. That's a big narrow minded. ratchet & clank is more of an adventure game. Uncharted as well. Metal Gear Solid IV (from what I have always heard) is a stealth game. And Valkyria Chronicles is a strategy based game. Granted, they all have guns at some moment or another but it shouldn't be listed as such a big deal. Also, you chose to liste GTAIV:LAD and Ninja Gaiden 2....two of the most violent games on the 360 I believe. Also, while you mention vital games on the Wii, some of them have been completely unconfirmed. Zelda? Pokemon? Pokemon has never had nearly a quarter of the success on home consoles as it's had on the handhelds.

Quantity and probably Quality too. I still prefer the PS3 but I do have random boughts where I feel the need to play brawl or mario kart wii.

There is a logical fallacy in this question. Exclusives battle is not something to be won if you mean "first party exclusives". It's undeniable that Ps3 has more outstanding and a better lineup in first party exclusives, and in this sense they "outdo" or "outmatch" their rivals but when it comes to the number of games (including all first, second and third party titles), they are still and will probably be far behind the other two in the future for various reasons. They also have this weakness of not being able to market their outstanding titles as well as MS or Nintendo.

Wii: 6 (8 including remakes)

360: 7

Console exclusives do NOT count.

Even if they did, 360 would only have 4 in the list. 5 if you include braid but devs said it's going to PSN fall.

PS3 exclusives: 3 over 90

360 exclusives: 2 over 90. 3 if you included braid but thats going to PC and PSN so that doesn't count.

WII exlusives over 90: 3. Twilight is on GC, rockband 2 is obviously multiplatform  RE4 is multiplatform, leaving 3 over 90 that are exclusive.

While I'm not a big fan of the Wii, I'll admit the Wii has better first party games than PS3.
