Forums - Sales Discussion - So after all of SF4s hype it still couldnt beat DBZ.

In Japan Dragonball Z Burst Limit sold 85,000+ copies on Week 1 but Street Fighter 4 which had a bunch of hype couldnt even out sell it. I know Street Fighter 4 isnt that good but still it should have outsold it. Theres several Dragonball Z games a year come out this was the first proper Street Fighter in ages. Im sure a bunch of you will complain or whatever but im not interested so save it. I just wanna know why Street Fighter couldnt have outsold DBZ. Yes i know DBZ is far far more popular than Street Fighter it doesnt come close to being as popular but still it should have done better.

Street Fighter IV is, in fact, that good.

You ask and then answer your own question quite expertly.  Which is great because then that means we can all just skip the thread.

...

Yes.

Also Britney Spears albums are outselling Andrea Bocelli's...

Actually thats not really a fair analogy as DBZ game was pretty good.

I dunno man, thigns sometimes go the way they go. Japanese love ballz of Dragon I guess more than Fighter 4 Street.

So, since when is 121,000 less than 85,000?

PS3 Burst Limit outsold PS3 SF4, but X360 SF4 outsold X360 Burst Limit. Overall, SF4 wins.

That said, I did have higher week 1 expectations for SF4, as far as Japanese sales go. I do, however, expect SF4 to far outpace DBZ in the West.

I think they would rather play it on arcade hehehe. I guess people were expecting "epic" sales for SFIV.

On the objective side of things Street Fighter 4 will beat Burst Limit for sure. That game brought fighters back to triple a status where I live. Every store in my area was sold out and had tournaments outside the store. On a subjective tip, I haven't even put a thought into burst limit as I'm not a fan of the videogames. I just don't find them fun. Street Fighter 4 put fighters back on the map.

It's not like Brawl is the most popular fighting game over there.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

lol seriously, Brawl is the most popular fighter everywhere. Speaking purely about "traditional" fighters, though, Tekken 6 (and now, BR) and VF5R have been killing SFIV on the Japanese arcade charts---SFIV hasn't hit #1 since it debuted (and presumably never will, since it's now on consoles). I'm not sure where the expectations of epic sales came from, really.
