Great numbers.

Oh, and are people really downplaying the game's sales? It's going to pass Blue Dragon at this point for Japan's best selling 360 game, what more can you ask for? It should have been obvious from the start that putting this game on the 360 would limit sales in Japan.

Is passing Blue Dragon really that great of an accomplishment? Blue Dragon was a new IP and sold to a smaller userbase at the time.

Star Ocean is a long running series that averaged 300k+ launch weeks.

I stated the sales are good for the 360, but it is undeniable that for the series the sales are not so good. Since when is cutting fanbase in half considered a good thing for the developer?

As a long time fan of the Star Ocean series I would like to see this game put into more gamers hands.

I just hope S-E knows what they are doing.

Very good for Star Ocean. Selling out your entire first week shipment, and then some, is always a good sign. Hopefully there'll be pent-up demand in Japan on it's second week, and it can manage 40,000+.

Yeah im really surprised too that the game has continued to sell, Famitsu did have it at 161k by the end of 08. Can Vesperia reach 180k?

euphoria14, yes great for the 360, but poor for the saga...

I say a good result, but not the best

Hardware, i was expecting 30k, IU even did more, but hey, its still good, what matters more is the long run effect, can it stay above 10k for the next month or so? Hopefully MS restock plenty of Arcades, its cheap and that will help a lot given how the Japanese are suffering right now, and it could be the reason for more ordinary gamers to go out and get a 360, so yeah im thinking the hardware will do well for a while

Software, yeah great, but it sold out! Who knows, will this dampen demand, or get people boosted up for next week? One thing we know is that it sold beyond expectations. Next week will be key, if it sells 20k units, itll hit 200k, but if it does say up to 40k units, then it has a chance at 250k

TBH, i think itll max out at 200k, or 210k. Still well done

Now a alert for the fanboys, STOP WHINING. Lets get something straight, MS paid for the developement of the engine, due to their deal for IU, hence didnt cost tri-Ace as much as it wouldve had they made the game for the PS3. In fact had they made the game for the PS3, they wouldnt have got the same funding for marketing, but also, you can expect the game to have come out months later too.

Then factor in the fact that North America, the 360 is ahead of the PS3 quite a lot, and to them, thats the most important region.

Why do you know how much its going to sell in NA and EU? Do you know how much this game cost? Do you know if Sony wouldve comitted as much as MS?

Yeah...

@Egghead

Let me ask you 1 question though.

If you were a developer, what would mean more to you.

A.) MS funding but much lower install base.
B.) No MS funding but mutliplatform release resulting in MUCH higher install base.

Option 2 in my opinion sounds much healthier for the future of the series.

It is much easier to build off of 400K+ sales than to build off of 200K+.

It is not whining, it is just an opinion that differs from yours.

Did you just ignore half my post.

Its the same here, so let me boil down for you

1. 360

 - MS marketing

 - Garuntee of solid sales in Japan (not blockbuster but SOLID)

 - Cheap developement

 - MS funding for engine, greater pay off in long-run

 - Easier and quicker developement

 - Not waiting around for developement kits

 - AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - Stronger sales in NA, the most important market in the world especially for hardcore games

2. PS3

 - You sell 100-150k copies more in Japan...

You decide

What makes you think a PS3 version would only do 100k-150k? A new IP called White Knight Chronicles has gone over 300k already.

Now yes S-E got a nice pay-off from MS, but how does that help them with sales of the next game?

It's easy. It doesn't.

Also being on 360 in no way insures better US sales. Let us come back to that argument when PS3 gets a JRPG out the door in the US. So far it has a good SRPG called Disgaea and already that game hurts your argument.
