Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Official Metroid Prime 3 Reviews Thread

I must beat Metroid Prime 1 and 2 before playing number 3 and my eyes are already at the point of bleeding, but I will endure and I will see how good Metroid Prime 3 is in near future.

Gameinformer gave MP3 9.5. Go check it out. Add it.

I agree with just about everything you've sad Naz. You've handled this thread so well I have very little to add.

Controls are awesome, better than a mouse and keyboard to me since the Wiimote is only slightly worse than a mouse for aiming/turning but the nunchuck is so far superior to WASD for moving it's not even funny. The artistic style is stunning.  A couple reviewers complained about the scan visor ruining the scenery but I found myself mutliple times going back to a room/area after clearing it and spending 5 mins just looking at the environment, it looks that good.

The pacing is fantastic and the level design is done unbelievably well. When you want to run and gun the level makes you feel like you want to run and gun, when you want to explore and fight the level makes you feel like you want to do both, and when you just want to be alone to explore, the level (and music in this case) makes you feel like you just want to explore by yourself.

Overall I'm leaning towards a 9.7 as well Naznatips.

Also I would like to second Naz on the Xbox Live problem. The horde of foul mouthed teenagers also killed it for me. I tried playing with the sound off for a while but it doesn't work well in Halo MP when you can't communicate with your teammates.

^ Xbox Live should get an ignore button.

The 2nd opinion on Game Informer is interesting, and probably very relevant. I obviously can't comment at this stage. Either way: people are either hassling the game for being too similar... or hassling it for being different, and trying something new.

ANDY MCNAMARA   8.75
As a long time Metroid fan, it pains me to not smother Nintendo’s newest addition to the family with love and adoration. This is not to say that I didn’t enjoy Samus Aran’s newest romp, but that things have changed, and in my view, not for the better. I always admired Metroid for its story that didn’t require lots of senseless dialogue to make its point. In Corruption, this has all changed with the introduction of bad cutscenes and even worse voiceover work. Next up are the giant worlds – the hallmark of any Metroid game – that I love to explore in search of upgrades and clues. While the upgrades and clues still exist, the world has been chopped up into bite-sized little pieces to make it easier, I presume, to digest Metroid’s exploration. In the end, it makes it all feel like Nintendo took my favorite cut of prime beef, and ground it up to make a nice fast-food hamburger for the masses. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a great hamburger, but it’s not the fantastic steak I have come to expect from the series.

(score 8.75 in case it doesn't show)

thats the best review i've read ^^

I've played for about 3 or 4 hours now...

It gets better and better! But I died at a boss, so I quit for now.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Yeah, the little kids really just ruined the experience for me.  I was used to playing PC shooters before then, which by and large were only played by adults...

Anyway, I hope everyone who gets the game enjoys it.  After all games are meant to be played, not read about.  Who cares what some 35 year old man living in his mother's basement says about your game in a review?  As long as you enjoy it, that's all that matters. I made a topic for MP3 Friend Vouchers now, so all you who have bought the game, be sure to hit it up and post your Wii FC there.  For those who haven't yet, be sure to post there when you do!  http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=6240

@ shams review

That review is pretty bad. What's different about the scale of this Prime? Sure the world is divied up but it was always divied up. In the past the smaller sections were connected by elevators and now the smaller sections are connected by not elevators (indeed it's much better than elevators in my opinion).

How often do we hear about sequelitis and games needing to change and be fresh? Then when an established series does change like with MP3 and people complain that the magic formula was altered they want them some traditional Metroid. Then again if they don't revamp the game as happened with Zelda:TP people complain that it hasn't changed and they played it 10 years ago.

It is funny in a sad way that reviewers can't seem to decide whether MP3 is just the game they played in 2002 or if it's so different it ruined the Metroid magic.

Oh well, as far as this Metroid fan of 18 years is concerned (I've owned every Metroid and beaten all but Prime 2) Prime 3 is not Prime 1 and the Metroid magic is fully present.
