While we're on the topic, anyone who thinks MM9 is hard is clearly a kidcore gamer. ;)

This is really uncalled for. At least wait until DMeisterJ has returned from his ban before you insult him.

It's hard to be online during the few minutes he's online between his bans. =\

Super Metroid is a master piece of a videogame. It is a masterpiece in a pure way. In that it isn't great because it borrows from the medium of literature or film in order to try an achieve greatness as some modern games do, but in that it is great purely for the art of videogames.

It's pacing, structure, control, graphics, depth of play, all of it was top notch. The bosses were incredible pushing you so that it always required a degree of reflexes, thought and an intuitive projection of yourself as the character on screen so that it felt like you had total and complete mastery of your fictional body to defeat these monsters. But they never pushed you so much that you couldn't possibly beat them. The level design was both complex and simple, but always ingenious. Every objective point flows from one to the other perfectly, and your goal is never obscure as long as you pay attention to your surroundings at all times, but it never held your hand like a child leading you from one spot to the next, it respected you as a gamer. The soundtrack was also superb, one of my all time favorites. It was a masterpiece of the medium.

I've beaten that games lord knows how many times, and it never gets old. It just feels amazing. Now Rubang, go do yourself a service and watch some speedrun videos of Super Metroid so you can feel ashamed of your 14 hour completion time. The first time I beat it, it probably was somewhere around 12-13 hours which boggles my mind now because I routinely beat it in 3 or less without even trying now (granted I've beaten the game a ton of times, so I know where everything is), but it shows how much time can be spent wandering around in the game, and amazingly it just doesn't get boring. It's because even if you're wandering aimlessly (or what feels like aimlessly) the game just FEELS good to play. Fantastic game.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Awesome game indeed. Super Metroid is still my favorite Metroid game to date. It was just so amazing how great of a game it is. The story was also the best story in a Metroid game. 5 stars indeed.

My first run through of SM was in about 8-9 hours. I really do think that is the greatest 2D game ive ever played.

Someone mentioned above the soundtrack.......its is possibly the best soundtrack ive heard in any game, period.

Yes, very good soundtrack. Particularly the Maridia theme.

Second best 2D adventure game...behind Castlevania Symphony of Night

Although it isn't my favorite Metroid game, Super Metroid was excellent and I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

PS. 13-14 hour completion time? :S

Metroid II rocks as well. :)

It's good to see that somebody else thinks so. Metroid II is sadly under appreciated.

It is. You never ever hear it mentioned ANYWHERE, while the other ones get all the praise. But it's truly a superb game. :)
