Forums - Microsoft Discussion - XBOX 360 Fans: Answer this truthfully

c0rd said:

Yeah, I'm sort of annoyed (or theoretically would be, if I had time to play my damn games). It seems like most of the games I'm interested in are either paid for (JRPGs) or published by Microsoft. (Keep it up!)

The problem is, the third party games that do interest me, like Mirror's Edge, seem to sorta flop anyway. Could just be my tastes don't align with the average gamer.

I'm the same way.  Many games I like never get to 1 million sales, let alone 500k.  I'm thinking of Valkyria and Vesperia.  I like Mirror's Edge and Uncharted which have plenty of color.  I like MGS and FF, which are both fairly popular.

But yeah, if MS wants me to stay interested in their console, they will need to keep paying for the jRPGs because frankly I have a high-end PC and a PS3 to do everything else I like.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

@pap64

I can see your point. It's just that you're not describing it right.

Since actually less than 20% of games for the X360 are any kind of shooters (FPS, TPS, tactical) people will object to your proposition and tell you how many RPGs, action games, sports games, strategy games and racing games there are.

But yes, these games still feel similar somehow, they do have something in common. You could call it "hardcore games", "HD games" or "western games", I'm not sure.

And what's missing for the X360 are the games opposite from these:
The arcade games, classic games, Japanese games, platformers, casual games, kids games, family games.

That's the big missing gap on the X360 (and you haven't got many of these for the PS3 either). Xbox Live Arcade has these type of games, and that's all great, but they're not as ambitious and big budget as retail games would be.

Mix in some Live Arcade with your retail games, and there is nothing to complain about.

The 360 has plenty of "Casual, Kids and Family games".  As well as XBLA arcade titles. Now platformers is totally true, and what exactly is "Japanese Games?"

I've been mostly playing action online game: Phantasy Star universe.. and MMORPG: FFXI online on the 360 along with standard j-rpgs

Also I like the old skool selection on XBL so I dont see the complaint about too many fps.

You might wanna diversify and try lips, ace combat 6, banjo-kazooie, fable II, mass effect, beautiful katamari

There is plenty of variety. Out of my 11 Xbox games, only 2 are shooters, I have a great variety of games.

Personally I love shooters. So with Halo3, Gears 1 / 2, Left 4 Dead the Xbox360 is the right choice for me.

But I don't think that is all the Xbox360 can deliver. There are great RPGs like Mass Effect (even though I did not get into it) Fable2, Lost Odyssey, Fallout 3 + DLC, Infinite Undiscovery (it is better than people want you to believe), Tales of Vesperia and the upcoming Star Ocean or Final Fantasy XIII.

The casual market is not as big as on the Wii, but with Scene it(2) / Lips / you are in the movies / Rockband / Guitar Hero there are some games you can have fun with

Plattformer like Banjo Kazooie or Viva Pinata could keep you busy as well.

Survival / Horror games like Condemned (2) / Silent Hill / Resident Evil 5 / Dead Space / I Am Alive or Alan Wake are already available or will be available soon.

With PGR 3 and 4 / Forza Motorsports 2 (soon 3) / Race Pro / Need for Speed / GRID etc there are more than enough racing games out there.

So there is not one genre that is not represented on the Xbox360. And MS tries to widen the market with games like Halo Wars or Banjo for example. The rest is up to 3rd parties. This is not MS or Sonys fault. 3rd parties want to play it save as it seems. Mirrors Edge was a try for EA and it flopped hard.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Good games are good games... The lable as an FPS system is unjustified and Kotoku has run a few articals disproving this.

I like that the 360 is geared to more hardcore games I feel there are plenty of non FPS. I play civ rev, burnout paradise, crackdown, fable 2, scene it, devil may cry 4 and many other great games. I will admit its FPS are the best, Gears 2 (third person shooter), r62, cod 4 and world at war, far cry 2, and GRAW just to mention a few.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

This is true to a degree, but the focus isn't just on FPS games. We own 30+ games on the 360 but about 10 are "shooters". Beautiful Katamari, Fable II, Oblivion, Lost Odyssey, etc. don't fit the mold and many of them are 3rd party games.

I don't really expect MS to try and compete head on with Nintendo, so I also own a Wii for party games, Mario, side-scrollers, etc.

So, while it would be nice to have a platform that "has it all", I'm not expecting it. Even the mighty PS2 didn't have much in the way of "shooters".

And to Lord N, your point about the 360 not having that large a user base or not having high volume of software sales is baffling. Yes, compared to the PS2, NONE of the current consoles has a large user base. But you make it sound as if the 360 software sales are weak, which is ridiculous. Does the Wii or the PS3 have better sales, overall?
